The all-time F1 great Lewis Hamilton may have reached the end of his career. He had a long and illustrious career with uncountable accolades and records. But the last season perhaps was a sign of the inevitable end of arguably the most famous F1 racer in motorsport history. The 38-year-old experienced the first season without a single win.
Seemingly, there are not many records left for him to break. Lewis Hamilton can rather create many more than what he already has made. The Champ is still looking for the ultimate record-breaking eighth title. He currently has seven titles alongside the legend Michael Schumacher. Fans consider him the greatest, but he needs that eighth title to become the greatest on paper.
But will he be able to make it, or should fans expect an early retirement? Lewis Hamilton has hinted quite a few times that he was thinking about retirement. His long-time rival and friend, Sebastian Vettel, retired at the end of the 2022 season. Vettel, a four-time champion, announced his retirement last July. So, feels like his ex-German rival may influence Hamilton to think about quitting. But the question remains what is the Champ thinking?
Lewis Hamilton Wants To Quit As A World Champion! But Will He Be Able To Do That?
Lewis Hamilton has often expressed his desire to retire being the World Champion. But the Champ has contradicted this desire a few times as he also predicted that he may not win many races even if he stays till 2027. The worst part is that he is just finding it hard to replicate his past glories. Apparently, even in the Mercedes team, he is not the best anymore. The new Mercedes man George Russell won the Sao Paulo Grand Prix in Brazil, the only win the team had in the 2022 season. Shockingly, Hamilton did not win a race last season, making the dream of winning the ultimate dream title push a bit far now.
Statistically speaking, the British driver has won 103 races in his amazing career and can only win another seven races in the future. 43.3% of fans voted for Lewis Hamilton who think he may end up with between 103 and 110 wins at the end of his career, according to a poll conducted by Express Sport. Things have changed since he started winning titles in 2008, with the number of races to secure a title increased. The English Superstar made it to the 2008 glory with only five wins. To be crowned again, he needs to win no less than eleven races, as he did in 2018, 2019, and 2020, three years in a row. On the other hand, the current consecutive two-time champion Max Verstappen won 15 races last season to win the title in a dominating style.
There are a lot of questions and speculations: Can Lewis Hamilton turn the clock back to become the Mercedes contender for the title? Will he be able to beat his fellow English Mercedes mate, George Russell? And finally, will he defeat the Belgian-Dutch World Champion to become the ultimate F1 Motorsport champion?
According to the stats, a major 33.1% voted that Hamilton will continue for another two years. Another 25.9 believe he is going to compete for another three years.
But What Do Hamilton And Co. Believe?
The big boss, Toto Wolff, claimed that the Champ is looking forward to another five years in F1 motorsport. Commitment is the most important thing for any sportsman, and the 38-year-old Champ is no different.
In an interview with Bild, a German Newspaper, Lewis Hamilton expressed his feeling when he revealed, “Sometimes I wake up and get this feeling like I don’t wanna do this anymore.” People can question his commitment to motorsport as he takes an interest in many things. Hamilton believes, “the most important thing are the memories. Thats what I look forward to do, creating memories. That’s what matters in the end.”
