After a stunning home series win against the Rangers, the New York Yankees boarded a flight to the West Coast for yet another road trip. They faced the worst-ranked team in MLB, Oakland Athletics, and hence started out as favorites. However, what unfolded shortly after proved to be the team’s biggest and worst nightmare.

Since Aaron Judge landed on IL due to a toe injury, the Yankee’s offense has been on the downside. However, the team did gain some momentum in the recent home series, where every struggling batter stepped up and recorded much-needed runs. Hence, the fans were assured of yet another series win against a dispirited Athletics. However, the Bombers once again offered a testament to their alarming and serious circumstances.

New York Yankees’ matchup against the worst-ranked MLB team, Oakland Athletics, started off on a positive note as Jhony Brito delivered an impressive outing. In 5.2 innings pitched, he gave away four hits and two runs. However, the starter received no support whatsoever from the offense. The only run of the game for the team came off Josh Donaldson’s bat in the fifth inning, wherein he scored a homer right after coming off the bench. But since none of the bases were covered, it went down as a solo home run. Regardless, the Bombers did have multiple opportunities in the final few innings of the game, which they ended up blowing completely.

In the eighth inning, Trevor May walked DJ LeMahieu and Anthony Rizzo. However, the next batter on the deck, Giancarlo Stanton, failed to capitalize on it and was caught at third base. Further, in the ninth inning, Gleyber Torres earned a single. But Josh Donaldson and Billy McKinney could not sustain for long at the plate. The rookie Anthony Volpe did earn a single but was caught out stealing a base. That marked the end of the game as the Yankees endured massive humiliation. Naturally, the results did not please the fans, who went full ballistic on the team for such ordinary results.

Radio Host Blasts Brian Cashman For Unnecessarily Backing Josh Donaldson

Yankees’ third baseman Josh Donaldson has been caught in the eye of the storm this season due to his subpar performance. His average now stands as low as .114 in the past 15 games. The infielder was even benched for three games in a row. He made a comeback on Tuesday against Athletics and contributed with a solo home run. However, that proved to be not enough for veteran radio host Mike Francesa.

He called out Yankees general manager Brian Cashman for mindlessly backing Josh Donaldson. He raised a question that is Cashman waiting for the baseman’s average to fall before .100 before pulling the plug? Mike even accused the GM of force-feeding chances to Josh just to justify his trade decision. Hence, it’s high time Brian Cashman accepts his mistakes and trades away Josh Donaldson for the betterment of the team.
