The New York Yankees hosted rivals Houston Astros in the Bronx for a four-game series for the first time since ALCS defeat in 2022. The hosts started off well by securing the series opener. However, Luis Severino’s terrible run cost them the second game. Fortunately, Nestor Cortes’ return helped the Yanks get to the winning ways, as it all came down to the final game.

New York Yankees looked poised to clinch a series win for the first time in a long while. For the crucial game, Aaron Boone put his faith in left-handed starter Carlos Rodon. However, the $162 million prized possession looked uncomfortable as he shelled out a huge lead pretty early into the game. To make matters worse, Rodon faced a massive injury scare which led to a premature exit.

Carlos Rodon, a talented left-handed pitcher, joined the New York Yankees with high hopes of making a significant impact. However, his tenure with the team has been marred by injuries and inconsistency. Since securing a six-year $162 million contract, the pitcher has incurred multiple injury concerns, which delayed his debut by several months. The pitcher recently took the mound for the first time in July. But the performance has remained underwhelming. His ERA is 7.33 in six starts which worsened on Sunday night. Against the Astros, he gave away five runs in three hits in mere 2.2 innings pitched. However, the day got worse for the pitcher as he was forced to dump the game.

After throwing his 58th pitch of the afternoon, Carlos Rodon looked uncomfortable as manager Aaron Boone and a trainer rushed for treatment. Rodon did some stretches and threw a couple of warm-up pitches. After a long huddle, the pitcher decided to call it quits and exited the game to loud boos from the crowd. After the game, the Yankees issued an official statement stating that the pitcher dealt with hamstring tightness on Sunday. Dr. David Trofa is currently examining him and will remain under observation for the next 24 hours. Whether or not the left-hander will require a possible IL stint remains unknown. Further, the skipper confirmed that Rodon will undergo an MRI on Monday to understand the true nature of the apparent injury.

Meanwhile, Carlos Rodon, who suffered a hamstring injury scare on Sunday, shared a huge update on the injury status. He said that he felt normal at the mound. However, the Yankees staff wanted to avert any risk of aggravation. Hence, Rodon claimed that his exit was indeed a precautionary measure. By Monday, they should have a clearer picture.

Having said that, Carlos Rodon looked extremely pissed. He added that its frustrating as he did not want to come out and perform the way he did on Sunday. Nevertheless, the next 24 hours are crucial for the pitcher. On the other hand, Rodon’s short stint on the mound set off the Yankees on the wrong foot as they ended up losing the game and splitting the series with the Astros.
