One of the last free-agent lifters available in the market for the Yankees is Aroldis Chapman. Yankees seek to chase him, but will they be able to make him sign the contract this offseason?
Aroldis Chapman apparently stayed with the Bronx Bombers three years more than he was supposed to. In 2019 he had to surrender the very last home run of the season to Jose Altuve in the ALCS. However, the Yankees never fail to bring good players back. The 2023 FMLBA [Free Major League Baseball Agency] is almost ending, but it still has a few star pitchers left, including Cuban Aroldis Chapman. He left New York after playing for six complete years with the Yankees.
There had been least chances for Chapman to return back in the Yankees. But recently, a former player Carlos Baerga uploaded a post on his Instagram account which suggested that there are two teams, both from the State of California and from the National League, which might keep interested in offering a two years contract to Aroldis.
Yankees, Padres, Or Dodgers, Who Will Have Aroldis Chapman?
As of now, two teams have been found to be involved in the chase of the Yankees’ free agent. The 34-year-old left handler may go to San Diego Padres as they are in search of a closer one, Or he may go to Los Angeles Dodgers, where Aroldis Chapman will get the chance to become a teammate of Julio Urias. For the Yankees, it is still unsure if Aaron Boone will try to fight for him or not. Undoubtedly, the last three years of the 34-year-old with the Yankees were the worst three years of his entire baseball career.
Earlier, Aroldis Chapman being a free agent, could not attract most of the teams; the Yankees were relieved that they could have him with a cheap contract. But now that the Dodgers and Padres are showing a little interest, the Yankees will have to do something.
Now fans will have to see if the Yankees still see a superstar in Aroldis Chapman throw a deal that is more than the one available on the table. Or they will consider the bullpen as just a pain in their success. The past three years may work as an example for the Yankees. Seeing the scores [2.94 ERA, 2.89 FIP, and 453 strikeouts across 294.1 innings ] of the player, the Bronx Bombers won’t be willing to do a mistake. They have someone like Aaron Judge, hoping to secure a championship to end the duck finally. The Yankees have not won since 2009. So in order to bring a winning celebration, why would they prefer to take risks? Probably Aroldis Chapman will not be in the Yankees, or let’s say for sure.
