Anthony Volpe, New York Yankees shortstop prospect, made his much-anticipated spring training debut on Sunday.

The New York Yankees are off to winning ways after registering a thumping win over the Atlanta Braves on Sunday. Moreover, the young players stole the limelight with an electrifying performance on the plate. Jasson Dominguez and Anthony Volpe are the highlighted names that turned heads around at George Steinbrenner Field in Tampa, Florida.

Meanwhile, Anthony Volpe, who was drafted by the New York Yankees in the 2019 MLB draft, entered spring training as the top MLB shortstop prospect of the year. Volpe is fighting for the starting shortstop position alongside Oswald Peraza and Isiah Kiner-Falefa. However, his recent performances have managed to get the world talking, and Volpe certainly seems to have lived up to the hype.

Anthony Volpe made his spring training debut on Sunday against the Toronto Blue Jays. He started at first base and went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases. Later, in Monday’s game against the Tigers, Volpe was asked to bat at second base. He clocked double plays in his two at-bats and showed excellent game sense to steal a run. Subsequently, Volpe’s explosive debut immediately caught the attention of his teammates and coaches. Skipper Aaron Boone had a word with the media and shared his thoughts on Volpe.

Yankees manager, Aaron Boone, said the seniors in the bullpen were completely awe-struck with Anthony Volpe’s performance. Further, Boone reveals the conversation he had with bench coach Carlos Mendoza. He said they discussed Volpe’s work ethic and said he is managing the game well, considering his lack of experience. Moreover, the shortstop’s intensity and efforts on the plate too impressed the coaching staff. Boone concluded by saying they are extremely excited to see Volpe’s performance and will experiment with him at third base going forward in the league.

Jasson Dominguez Impresses With A Powerful Homer On Debut

Meanwhile, another top prospect is shining through the rough with powerful and clean hitting on debut. Jasson Dominguez made his spring training debut against the Philadelphia Phillies. In his first outing, Jasson recorded one run, a home run, and RBI in total. Moreover, Jasson’s hard-hitting home run has created a lot of buzzes. Being a 20-year-old, Jasson hit the home run at the speed of over 100 kph, and the ball traveled more than 200 feet away.

The top two Yankees prospects, Jasson Dominguez and Anthony Volpe, have outshined and performed way above the expectations and hype. While the fans echo their voices for the duo’s inclusion in the starting roster, the Yankees management is hiding their ace cards for now. Both the prospects are unlikely to make a major league debut this MLB season. However, 2024 might prove to be the breakthrough year for Volpe and Dominguez. Right now, both prospects are building a solid case for themselves in spring training.
