Despite offering an extension contract, the New York Yankees are still considering trading Isiah Kiner-Falefa and Gleyber Torres before the opening day.
The 2023 MLB season begins in less than seven weeks. Moreover, spring training will begin in the forthcoming two weeks to allow the teams to test their rosters. Coming to the New York Yankees, they have a strong bullpen on paper, as usual. However, how nicely the bullpen comes together as a roster remains to be seen.
Meanwhile, just weeks to the opening day, the Yankees are still creating a buzz in the trade market. The front office is making reasonable efforts to acquire an outfielder for the left field. Moreover, as per a few latest reports, the Bronx Bombers are considering trading a couple of experienced players on the roster due to the arrival of young prospects.
Can Yankees Still Trade Isiah Kiner-Falefa and Gleyber Torres?
Chris Kirschner of The Athletic wrote a piece wherein he explained how the New York Yankees can still consider trading Isiah Kiner-Falefa and Gleyber Torres. According to Chris, as DJ LeMahieu is fit and set to make a return, Josh Donaldson might have to make way for the veteran. Moving on to Isiah Kiner-Falefa, the Yanks front office hinted at Oswald Peraza’s confirmed spot at the starting shortstop. This means Isiah has lost a place on the starting roster.
Furthermore, Anthony Volpe is likely to put up a good show in spring training. If Volpe somehow manages to shine, Torres could be on his way out. With the young prospects in the mix, the non-performers of last season could face the axe. Moreover, both Isiah and Torres were highlighted in the trade rumors despite signing extension contracts. Hence, it is highly likely that the Yankees will choose to trade Isiah and Torres before the 2023 MLB season opening day or during late July.
Isiah Kiner-Falefa Reports For Spring Training
Meanwhile, amidst trade rumors, Isiah Kiner-Falefa has landed in Florida to take part in spring training. While the bullpen was asked to report after the 16th of February, Isiah decided to turn up early. Moreover, the shortstop arrived with his little pet, Bella, at the Yankees’ Tampa base camp. Further, MLB insider, Bryan Hoch, shared a few snapshots from Tampa wherein Isiah is seen practicing in the infield.
The New York Yankees have a crucial spring training session coming up. Moreover, the front office decided to invite 69 players to the session to ensure that everyone gets and chance and no talent gets wasted. First of all, the Bombers will have to come up with a substantial name for the left field. Secondly, as Nestor Cortes and Frankie Montas suffer from injuries, the Yanks will need two pitchers to fill in the starting roster. Lastly, the New York Yankees must fix a candidate for the starting shortstop position. Even after all this, the troubles do not end. The team has to focus on getting the injured guys back in the mix as soon as possible.
