Lewis Hamilton is entering his final year with Mercedes in the 2024 F1 season. It took the seven-time world champions one winter to conclude that Mercedes was no longer a good fit for him. Ferrari’s lucrative offer lured Hamilton to Maranello for the 2025 season and BEYOND!
However, Ferrari is the future, and Mercedes is still Lewis Hamilton’s present. He remains committed to striving his team to excellence for one last ride. Meanwhile, ahead of the season-opening round in Bahrain, Lewis Hamilton opened up on his love for the Silver Arrows and how every week is going to be an emotional moment for him.
Lewis Hamilton Ready For Emotional Final Year With Mercedes
Mercedes’s most successful driver and seven-time world champion, Lewis Hamilton, will don the black overalls for the final time this season. He is set to move to Ferrari by the end of the 2024 F1 season. Having said that, Hamilton’s focus is on maximizing this year. On the media day in Bahrain, Lewis revealed that he still and will always love Mercedes. That has been his home and family for the larger part of his racing career. He explained how the engineers and mechanics have been extremely understanding. But that doesn’t take away the fact that the final ride would be emotional. “There will be many emotional experiences throughout the year, the last test, the last seat fit, but we will experience it together, “said Hamilton.
Lewis Hamilton further affirmed that Mercedes has been super supportive through the winter, irrespective of his contract status. They know he is here to deliver. Additionally, Lewis feels confident that Silver Arrows will win a championship soon. He has been a part of the rebuilding process, and everything just seems positive at this point. “We have a better platform to work off this year,” added Hamilton. Indeed, the final year at Brackley will be an emotional journey for the Briton. In the past decade, he gave his sweat and blood to guide the team to unimaginable success. But it’s time for him to move on and explore other career avenues as the 39-year-old remains on the final stretch of his glorious motorsport career. And the search for that groundbreaking eight-championship title will now persist at Ferrari.
Hamilton Opines If George Russel Is Capable To Lead Mercedes
For the past decade, Lewis Hamilton has been the lead driver for the Mercedes F1 team. But now, it is time for change. As Briton moves to Ferrari, his teammate, George Russell, will be the team’s automatic future leader. But is the 25-year-old capable of succeeding the seven-time world champion?
Apparently, yes, feels Lewis Hamilton. He says Russell is technically sound and has been very engaging in the team. Additionally, the former Williams driver is close to team principal Toto Wolff, which is an added advantage. “No doubt that will be his position,” said Hamilton. Earlier, Wolff confirmed that Russel will succeed Lewis as the team’s no.1 driver from the 2025 season.
