Why Are The Lakers Desperate To Trade Russell Westbrook Despite Him Leading The Squad In Overtime?

The Los Angeles Lakers might be finding their groove back with a bit of improvement in the squad with a young trade. Last week the Lakers finally made a change for which the fans had waited so long. LA fans got tired of seeing the same average squad throwing away all the games. However, the front office\’s lost faith in the team lead is stopping them from making significant changes this season. According to recent reports, the Lakers\’ administration thinks this season is far gone from saving. And rumors also suggest the administration is desperate to trade Russell Westbrook.

The Lakers played an exceptional game in Mecca of basketball against the New York Knicks. The young addition Rui Hachimura and Russell Westbrook helped the team win their first game after two regular losses. It was a much-needed win, as LA requires as many wins as they can get looking at their condition this season. Even after winning in New York, Hollywood remains at the bottom at 13th position in the Western Conference. Last night also marked the return of LeBron James and Anthony Davis, who were resting because of their perspective injuries.

The 34-year-old point guard is often criticized for lacking accuracy in clutch moments. There were moments when Russell Westbrook had the opportunity to seal the game for the team but could not. However, last night was different, as he managed to support the team with three of his seven assists in overtime. Westbrook\’s new role is all about leading the second unit in the absence of LeBron and AD. And the reserved point guard just controlled most of the events on the court. In the extra five minutes, which were crucial for the Lakers, Westbrook owned the stage.

Apart from the controversy surrounding point guard Russell Westbrook, AD and LBJ were also good. The two superstars did manage to pull good numbers, but they did not look at their best. The 29-year-old center, who recently returned from the injury, is still sluggish and lacks dynamic movements. Before his injury, Davis used to take control of the game at both ends of the court. But it seems the beast will take some time before getting back into his usual form. LeBron also thrived with a triple-double reaching as high as 4th in the All-time assists list.

Besides James, Russell Westbrook also advanced in the All-time scoring list last night. With ten assists to compliment his 17 points, Russ cross-passed the Hall of Famer guard Gary Payton. Westbrook expressed his excitement in the post-game interviews. \”If somebody had told me 15 years ago, 20 years ago that you\’d be top 10 in assists, I\’d look at them like they were crazy,\” Russell said. For the team filled with superstars, every day is a reach for new records in the league.
