Tommy Kahnle Is Back At The Yankees!

Tommy Kahnle signed a contract for a reunion with the New York Yankees last week. Kahnle is overjoyed to be wearing pinstripes once again. After a split in October 2020, the right-handed reliever agreed to a two-year, $11.5 million deal to return to The Bronx. Two months after having Tommy John surgery, Kahnle refused to accept a Triple-A downgrade and instead became professional, signing with the Dodgers in December.

During a conversation with MLB Network Radio last week, Kahnle talked about his reunion with the Yankees. Tommy said that he told the team that he would love it if they were interested in reuniting. He added, \”We were looking at places where I could seem to fit in the bullpen, you know, back end. But it all came to fruition that night.\”

The 33-year-old New York pitcher made 129 appearances with the Yankees between 2017 and 2022. And posted a 4.01 ERA throughout portions of four seasons. He signed a two-year contract with Los Angeles. But he\’ll have to sit out the 2021 campaign to heal from his elbow surgery. Last year, he made 13 appearances for the Dodgers and threw to a 2.84 ERA despite missing three months of the season due to forearm irritation. He even briefly filled in as the team\’s closer.

Due to a forearm injury, Kahnle missed three months of the previous season before making a comeback in the Dodgers\’ bullpen over the final stretch. Even Craig Kimbrel, who was having a late-season breakdown, gave him a chance to play closer. In addition to his 2.84 ERA across 12.2 innings thrown, Kahnle ended the regular season with 13 outings, and one save. In his three playoff outings against the San Diego Padres in the National League Division Series, he had less success than expected, allowing three runs in three outings.

Tommy will be eager to make his presence known as he is back with the Yankees. But will he be able to do that? Only time will tell.
