The New York Yankees filled the infield gap by trading Jazz Chisholm Jr last weekend. The trade was finalized with the Miami Marlins in exchange for three prospects, thus extending the Bombers’ hitting depth. However, the front office’s job is far from done, as several other areas of concern need to be addressed.

That being said, bullpen depth is one of those areas the front office is looking to upgrade next. Of course, the options in the market are slim. Regardless, the Yankees leadership has apparently shortlisted as many as 10 closers, including Marlins and Rays’ top relief pitchers.

Jazz Chisholm Jr is a Yankee in what turned out to be the New York Yankees’ first mid-season move ahead of the August 1 trade deadline. Chisholm will possibly resolve third base woes as he eyes an unfamiliar challenge in pinstripes. Meanwhile, after the infield upgrade, it’s time for the front office to look out for bullpen options. As per Jon Heyman of the NY Post, the Yanks have made a list of as many as 10 closers they wish to target before the deadline, including Miami Marlins’ Tanner Scott, Tampa Bay Rays’ Pete Fairbanks, Washington Nationals’ Kyle Finnegan. Notably, closing has been a nagging issue for the Bombers even since Clay Holmes began to crack under pressure. Holmes ranked seventh in MLB with 21 saves and is tied for the league lead with seven blown saves.

Meanwhile, Tanner Scott has been a standout performer for the Marlins, known for his impressive velocity and strikeout capabilities. This season, Scott has continued to demonstrate his effectiveness, posting a 1.18 ERA in 44 appearances. Additionally, Scott’s left-handed pitching would also provide a strategic advantage, offering a different look to the Yanks’ predominantly right-handed bullpen. On the other hand, Pete Fairbanks, another highly regarded closer, has been a critical part of the Rays’ bullpen. Fairbanks has been reliable in save situations and possesses a calm demeanor under pressure. Additionally, his track record in the postseason adds to his appeal, providing the Bombers with a proven performer when games matter the most. Overall, the clock is ticking for the New York-based franchise. With each passing hour, the front office will lose options on the trade window.

Yanks, Dodgers In Pursuit Of Cardinals Utility Man

In a separate rumour, New York Yankees and LA Dodgers are apparently showing interest in St Louis Cardinals utility player Tommy Edman. Edman’s ability to play multiple positions, including second base, shortstop, and outfield, makes him a valuable asset for any team. However, Edman is yet to play a game this season due to injury setbacks.

Tommy Edman suffered an ankle injury setback while recovering from an off-season wrist surgery. Hence, extensive injury history could play a pivotal role in the Yankees’ final decision on a potential trade. Moreover, now that the Bombers have Jazz Chisholm Jr, infield depth isn’t necessarily a primary issue and certainly not worth giving up prized prospects in exchange.
