The Golden State Warriors remain under pressure to shake up the roster ahead of the February 8 deadline. However, orchestrating a move is easier said than done. For the longest time, the Dubs have formed a dynasty around a core roster comprising Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green.

The trio has been associated with the Golden State Warriors since the beginning of their careers. Thus, breaking the core is a matter of emotional and personal connection for the Dubs’ nation. However, the current NBA season has posed unique challenges that might force the front office to pull off bold moves. Will the Dubs move on the core by this trade deadline?

Klay Thompson and Draymond Green dedicated their entire NBA careers to the Golden State Warriors. In the past decade, the duo led the Dubs to four championship titles. However, the 2023-24 NBA season has produced steep challenges for the dynast team. With half season under the rug, the club sits 12th in the Western Conference with an abysmal 20-24 record. Thus, fans and analysts alike have called for a change. Meanwhile, with the mid-season trade deadline inching closer, Shams Charania of The Athletic claimed that the Dubs are open to trading Klay Thompson, Andrew Wiggins, Chris Paul, and Draymond Green. He added how everyone except Steph Curry will be discussed on the trade deadline. However, the Dubs have retracted from the initial plan.

ESPN’s Brian Windhorst reported on Wednesday that Klay Thompson and Draymond Green are off the table. The Golden State Warriors are no longer interested in parting ways with their veteran duo. Instead, Windhorst added that the Dubs could hear offers for Chris Paul and Andrew Wiggins. While Paul is on an expiring contract, growing concerns over Wiggins’s dip in performance are second to none. Thus, momentarily, Thompson and Green are out of the bush. Having said that, Klay has struggled to find his footing this season. He is averaging 17.6 points this season, but inconsistency has been duly exposed. On the other hand, Green has struggled to stay on the court in the aftermath of as many as three suspensions. He skipped 16 games this season due to separate physical alteration incidents. Thus, going forward, the duo must keep it together to win games for the Dubs.

Just a few hours before the Golden State Warriors and Philadelphia 76ers ball roll, the Dubs scratched Klay Thompson from the starting lineup. Apparently, Thompson was under the weather with a non-covid-related illness. However, the team refused to let out specific details and listed him day-to-day.

Having said that, no return timeline is set for Klay Thompson as of yet. The Warriors will meet the Memphis Grizzlies next Friday. If Klay fails to return against the Grizzlies, he should be ready for Saturday when the Dubs face the Hawks. Overall, Klay Thompson’s abrupt absence will only add to the Dubs’ woes as they navigate their way through the difficult season.
