The offseason has seen the New York Yankees go on quite the spending binge. With a six-year, $162 million contract, the Yankees acquired Carlos Rodon to their starting rotation. The two players are the only ones to whom the Yankees have given more than $500 million in guaranteed money. The management had to take a major risk if they wanted to use their roster fully, and it was a gamble they had to take.

Under the terms of his contract, Rodon will get an average yearly salary of $27 million. He could, though, be the crucial component the Yankees require to reclaim their place in the World Series. The squad had a promising start to the previous season but lost steam after the All-Star break, battling through the summer and losing to the Houston Astros in the ALCS.
