New York Yankees Eyeing Minnesota Twins’ Ex-MVP For A Potential Trade: Reports

Despite having a solid bullpen, New York Yankees are looking out for options in the trade window. The primary reason being the need for a solid left field outfielder. FYI, the Yankees have a crowded infield and less number of outfielders. Hence, a new rumor surrounding potential trade surfaces online every now and then.

Earlier, news came in the Yankees have asked the Pirates for a trade of Bryan Reynolds, who opted out of his two-year contract. However, the Pirates’ ridiculous ask stalled the trade and is unlikely to happen any time soon. Now, the Yankee front office is looking for low buy options in the trade market. Meanwhile, the latest addition to this rumor is an ex-MVP outfielder of the Minnesota Twins.

The New York Yankees’ woes with the left field are not hidden from the world. The club tried to acquire a designated left fielder for the entire off-season but failed to close the deal. A few names have emerged in the past as a potential interest of the Yanks, but nothing substantial really came out of it. Now the latest addition to the list is Minnesota Twins outfielder Max Kepler who happens to be an ex-MVP.

Max Kepler has been an outfielder associated with Minnesota Twins since 2015. Last year, he scored nine home runs with an average of .227. Moreover, in 2019, Max scored his career high 36 home runs and 90 RBIs and placed his candidature for the MVP. Hence, he could be a perfect addition to the Yankees bullpen. However, the trade looks unlikely to go ahead as the Yanks aim to adhere to the Steve Cohen Tax. They are already standing at the edge of the threshold and are not in a position to make a trade for now.

“One team that has shown interest in Kepler is the New York Yankees,” says MLB insider Robert Murray

The Bombers Also Eyed Jurickson Profar For Trade

Prior to this, the Yankees showed keen interest in San Diego Padres outfielder Jurickson Profar. Profar is the top free agent remaining in the window. However, the funds’ limitation came in the way and stalled that trade as well. If the Yanks decide to surpass the tax threshold, they will pay 90% tax on every dollar spent above the limit as second-time offenders. Hence, the hesitation is understandable.

Yankees will participate in the spring training ahead of the 2023 MLB season opening day. Moreover, Aaron Judge will lead the roster. Barring a few injury concerns, the bullpen looks strong to compete for the championship title. Moreover, the Yanks will look to end their 13-year-long wait for the World Series title. Last year, the Houston Astros blocked their way and knocked the Bombers out in the ALCS.
