Mercedes star Lewis Hamilton for the first time in his career, finished the last season without a single race win. The W13 created all sorts of trouble for the Brackley team. The whole team had been working night and day to figure out the problem in the car since the last season.
The Silver Arrows ended last year with one solitary victory that came in Brazil at the hand of their newest driver, George Russell. In the midst of all these troubles, the team has gone through reshuffling a bit in their group. Their long-time strategy chief Mr. James Vowles has moved to Williams Racing as their new Team Principal. Clearly, the team needed some new players to pump up the game. And looks like the Brackley-based team has finally welcomed an important asset.
Former Red Bull Member Joins The Silver Arrows
Lately, team Principal Toto Wolff mentioned they knew the urgency of some significant changes after Vowles was gone. He said how deeply they would miss James. The new information is that Mercedes will have a new senior advisor in the group in the form of former Red Bull COO Jayne Poole. On Friday morning, the Mercedes team boss was walking with the latest member of the squad in the Bahrain paddock. Mercedes is clearly trying to get all the help and advice from her regarding the problems that teams can face due to the cost cap situation and how to avoid them.
Poole will work closely with Wolff and the whole team to check on the present infrastructure in the Brackley team and point out the possible changes the team needs to make. Poole has a good record with Red Bull as she provided immense support to Horner and the team as HR and COO for all these years. She could often be seen with the Red Bull boss at the Grand Prix. It is clear that nobody could help the Silver Arrows more than her. At least about understanding the way, Red Bull works at every Grand Prix. That way, Mercedes can plan their next move.
Mercedes Plans To Retain The F1 Title
The Brackley team is eagerly waiting to retain their F1 glory days. Mercedes had lost the driver’s title twice, and last year they could not win the constructor’s title either. Toto Wolff knows how important it is for every F1 team to keep a balance. So that if any senior officials leave, they won’t have to start from scratch. The Mercedes team boss revealed the reason for their success over the years. He said, “it is the way we plan.”
Wolff also knows that breaking the plan structure is not a good idea. Instead, make necessary adjustments and keep the things that work for the team. The three days of pre-season testing gave Mercedes a little bit of hope. After all the hard work, the new W14 car had much less trouble with bouncing than its predecessor. That was a significant benefit for the team. The team would hope to bounce back in the upcoming season.
