Max Verstappen, the current double-time Formula One world champion, has taken the glory away from Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes. The Silver Arrows enjoyed an indomitable hegemony in Formula One from the beginning of the turbo-hybrid era in 2014 to 2020. Both the driver’s and constructor’s titles used to belong to the Silver Arrows. Until Max Verstappen won it all the last season. Like the glories he took away from Mercedes, he also brought back luck in the Red Bull Racing camp. Christian Horner’s team won four titles back-to-back, with Sebastian Vettel steering the wheel between 2010 and 2013.

Max Verstappen and teammate Sergio Perez

However, Max Verstappen could not have done it alone. The Dutchman has got a great team with Christian Horner as the boss and a great teammate in form of Sergio Perez. Fans know how much Checo helped the Dutch to become the champion in 2021 and even last year. Albeit, it seems like the 33-year-old Mexican is a bit underrated in the Milton Keynes team camp. It was a pretty well-known fact that Max Verstappen is closer to Daniel Ricciardo, who is playing the role of the third driver in the team.

If things get worse for Checo, then the Aussie might replace him as the second driver of Red Bull Racing. However, Horner mentioned, “Checo knows very well what the team expects from him. It can be an intimidating task to drive in the same team with someone so good as Max Verstappen.” Perhaps the Mexican need not worry about it any time soon. But it is not clear how Max Verstappen feels about his teammate.

Max Verstappen Chooses His Dream Team

In a recent interview with a motorsport magazine show, Mobil 1 The Grid, Max was asked to choose his dream F1 team. The rule was Verstappen was not allowed to include himself in the team. Neither was he allowed to select any legends from the past. Max could choose any great racer from the current lot. The obvious choice for a great racer from the recent time is Lewis Hamilton. Anyone in Max’s place could pick the seven-time champion. But no, Max Verstappen did not choose the great Briton. The Dutch explained that he would go with an experienced and a youth. So he picked Fernando Alonso, the oldest in current F1, racing for Aston Martin, and the young talent from McLaren, Lando Norris.

Fernando Alonso And Max Verstappen

When asked about who would be the team boss, he replied, “of the current lot, there is none better than Christian Horner.” Actually, Mercedes boss Toto Wolff has the best record in F1 currently. But more importantly, Verstappen ignored Hamilton and Perez. The question arises why? Hamilton is the arch-rival, and Perez is the partner.

A few days ago, the Spanish driver of Aston Martin said, “Verstappen’s double title victory is more valuable than Hamilton’s seven.” Perhaps this way, the Dutch reciprocated to the 2005 and 2006 world champions. Another reason for snubbing Lewis Hamilton might be their history that dates back to the 2021 controversial final lap. When things started falling apart for Mercedes and Max Verstappen became the new world champion.
