Anthony Volpe, the New York Yankees’ top prospect this season, received a nod from the front office to contest for the shortstop role. Ever since his spring training debut, the 21-year-old had had five hits, one homer, four runs, one RBI, and two stolen bases. Moreover, Volpe showed quality skills on the field with electric throws and stops. Naturally, the fans asked the Yankees to include the prospect in the final opening-day roster. Meanwhile, Yankees manager Aaron Boone responded to the debate and said they are keeping a close watch on Volpe, and his inclusion into the final roster could be a possibility.

However, Boone acknowledged the fact that Anthony Volpe lacks considerable minor-league experience, which could lower his odds during decision-making. Hence, the Bombers may end up giving him more time in the minors to further develop his skills. Nevertheless, the fact that Volpe is even being considered for a spot on the final roster is proof of his impressive development so far. He has shown that he has the talent and work ethic to compete at the highest level, and the Yankees will surely be keeping a close eye on him as the season progresses.

Twitter User Weighs In Anthony Volpe’s Roster Inclusion Chances

While the front office contemplates Anthony Volpe’s future, a Twitter user had an interesting take on the matter. A user named “Jomboy” compared Volpe’s case to one that occurred in 2017. He said, in 2017, the Yankees’ regular shortstop got injured, and they promoted Gleyber Torres to the position at training camp. However, despite the impressive numbers put forth by Torres, the management overlooked everything and placed Pete Kozma as starting shortstop.

Citing the example, the Twitter user stated that Anthony Volpe is likely to meet the same fate as Torres. He believes the chances of Volpe’s opening-day roster inclusion are almost zero. But regardless of whether he starts the year in the majors or continues to hone his skills in the minors, it seems clear that he is a player to watch in the years to come. With a combination of offensive and defensive skills, he has the potential to be a valuable asset for the Yankees for years to come.
