For a while, people have been wondering if Lewis Hamilton, the seven-time champion, who has spent a decade with team Mercedes, wants to stay for more or not. His contract extension with the Silver Arrows has been a hot topic in the F1 community for some time now. People also speculated that Lewis Hamilton might move to Ferrari. But the Briton mentioned time and again that as long as there is clear communication between him and boss Toto Wolff, Mercedes is his home.
Apparently, fans are also afraid because of the fact that Hamilton is the second oldest on the grid after Fernando Alonso. He is at the twilight of his career and has many interests outside of Formula One. However, as it stands, Lewis Hamilton is not going to say yes to a $48 million offer from Ferrari. He is not going anywhere, as Mercedes will have the silly negotiations done in a few days’ time, as confirmed by the boss himself.
Toto Wolff Says Hamilton’s Contract Talks Will Happen Before The Canadian GP
Alas! Fans have been dead worried about Hamilton’s contract, which is set to end this year. What if he soon retires and focuses on his new film production house Dawn Apollo or other things? Experts think Lewis Hamilton needs a fast car that helps him win one more championship to stand as the lone eight-time champion. However, Mercedes does not look like achieving that anytime soon. Hence, if they extend his contract, it is a question of how long it will take Mercedes to dominate again. Talking about the contract extension, in a recent interview with Squawk of CNBC, Toto Wolff announced that the meeting about a contract extension will happen soon. “I’m not talking about weeks, but in a few days, we’ll have that talk,” acknowledged the Mercedes boss.
Wolff even hinted at getting Lewis Hamilton’s contract extension over with before the Canadian Grand Prix. It might just happen that quickly after such a long wait. The boss believes that when there is such a deep friendship between someone, it becomes too awkward to talk about money. Although it is sure that Hamilton may talk with the Mercedes boss in a few days about that. Moreover, it is also predicted by some F1 analysts that the new contract will last till Lewis gets to 40. Evidently, Hamilton is the most important F1 personality on and off the track. Hence, he needs to stay with the sport for as long as possible.
Lewis Hamilton Still Looking For Another Championship-Winning Car
The Briton joined Mercedes in 2013 after the F1 great Niki Lauda persuaded him. So did Toto Wolff joined the same year. And as time passed, the team principal and driver’s partnership changed the history of Formula One. Because of this duo’s astonishing performance, Mercedes went on to win eight constructors and seven driver’s championships in a row. Nobody came close to the German team as the team dominated the turbo-hybrid era. But everything fell apart at the end of the driver’s championship as Max Verstappen of Red Bull narrowly beat Hamilton on his way to winning the coveted eighth title. Since then, Mercedes has been looking to build a car that helps them win races and titles. But it has not been fruitful so far. The last race Lewis Hamilton won was back in 2021 in Saudi Arabia.
