Golden State Warriors’ ongoing campaign in the 2023-24 NBA season has been nothing short of a nightmare. The team kicked off the year on a losing note and kept in tumbling down the Western Conference table with humiliating losses. Having said that, the half-strength lineup always stayed at the core of the struggle.
From Draymond Green’s absence to Klay Thompson’s slump, Steph Curry was forced to fend for himself and carry the Warriors on his shoulders. Meanwhile, the Dubs’ front office did try to pull off an ambitious move during the trade deadline to bolster the roster, which didn’t come through. But had the front office succeeded in its attempt, a championship was guaranteed for Golden State.
Draymond Green Shares Honest Take On LeBron James-Warriors Trade Link-Up
Amid calls for an imminent change, the Golden State Warriors ended up with minimal roster moves at the trade deadline. The leadership reckoned trust in the existing lineup to turn things around. Having said that, hours after the deadline closed down, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski and Ramona Shelburne reported that the Dubs tried to make a trade for LeBron James. They allegedly approached the Lakers, but Jeanie Buss refused to entertain the idea. She re-confirmed that the Lakers have no intention of parting ways with LeBron anytime soon. However, the mere mention of James in the same as Golden State was enough to send waves in the NBA community.
Meanwhile, Golden State Warriors’ veteran Draymond Green recently shared his honest reaction to the link-up rumors at 7 PM in Brooklyn podcast. Green said LeBron James trade rumors left him perplexed and excited at the same time. He couldn’t help but draw images of how LeBron would fit into the lineup with Steph Curry. Draymond added that had LeBron moved to San Francisco, the Golden State would have won a championship ring without a doubt. Having said that, if the Dubs had managed to execute a trade for LeBron James, it would have undoubtedly altered the dynamics of the team and the league as a whole. James’ arrival would have added another superstar to an already formidable lineup, creating a “Big Four” alongside Curry, Thompson, and Green. However, the 39-year-old is extremely happy and comfortable in LA and wants to be a Laker in the near future.
Dubs Reignite Playoffs Hope With Second-Half Resurgence
Even without LeBron James, the Golden State Warriors managed to pull things off in their favor after the trade deadline. The Dubs have won 12 of their past 15 games and currently stand 10th in the fiercely competitive Western Conference table. The Steph Curry-led side recently outclassed the New York Knicks, which will only boost their confidence.
On that note, the Golden State Warriors still have 24 games at their helm to make a difference and qualify for the playoffs. It’s an opportunity for Steph Curry and co. to script history in the second half and make a statement. So far, critics have written the Dubs off. But with the latest resurgence, the Golden State still remains in play.
