LeBron James- Lou Williams
LeBron James (Los Angeles Lakers)- Lou Williams (Los Angeles Clippers then)

The Los Angeles Lakers have dealt with a lot of injury issues in the last two years. These injuries have apparently cost them the last couple of seasons. But they are not giving up on their hopes. The Lakers recently lost the all-time top scorer, LeBron James, for two weeks due to a tendon injury. And as per the reports, he may not come back before the postseason.

Despite that, the Lakers need to keep alive the chances for a play-in or playoff appearance this year. Last year they could not make the postseason because LeBron James missed a lot of games. However, Anthony Davis carried the team as far as he could. But it was not enough because the Lakers did not have a good mix in the roster. This year as well, the front office has tried its best to bring in the best players and, anyway, pull the Lakers to the playoffs. And there are chances that this free agent could join the purple and the gold squad in the foreseeable future.

Why Lakers Should Buy Free Agent Lou Williams?

In this hustling scenario, the Los Angeles franchise would look to buy any quality players, veteran or youth, who could help the team in any way. Apparently, a quality veteran is around the corner, floating as a free agent. Lou Williams can be a quality addition to the Laker’s bench. The 36-year-old point guard has experience playing in Los Angeles as he was part of the Clippers for four years and a couple of years with the Lakers. Williams has won the NBA Sixth Man of the year thrice. For most of his career, he played off the bench. Even when the man from Memphis, Tennessee, was at the peak of his career for the 76ers, the 6 feet 1-inch shooting guard was a reliable reserve.

Williams last played for the Hawks for a year and is now looking for a new franchise. Los Angeles Lakers need a player precisely like that. They don’t need a star like Westbrook, who would just be in the lineup for his name and fame. But a player who can provide quality input as a reserve whenever he gets a chance off the bench. Who can be better at this role than a player like Lou Williams, who played his entire career as a specialist reserve? Williams can help to strengthen the bench of several teams who still have a chance for playoffs. For the Hawks, Williams was averaging 6.3 ppg, 1.6 rpg, and 1.9 apg in the 2021-2022 season.

The LA Franchise Has A Good Chance For The Playoffs

Lakers Rob Pelinka Darvin Ham

This year, Rob Pelinka and the rest of the front office made sure that there is balance in the group. After a good share of hustle and the squad playing through injury, the Lakers have a better chance to qualify for the playoffs. This is because of the remaining easy games of the current regular season. But the only concern for Pelinka and Ham will be any more injuries. As a precaution, the team will need more players to come in as reserves.

In the main lineup, Anthony Davis will need to continue his terrific form in the last two games. With the veteran LeBron James and the young gun D’Angelo Russell out with injuries, Anthony Davis is fighting as a lone wolf. Dennis Schroder provided quality support in their last game to AD, though. Even Anthony Davis is not totally fit, as he returned after missing several games due to an injury he sustained in December. If any more players sustain injuries, that can be a fatal blow to the hopes of the Lakers to proceed further in the season.
