Jasson Dominguez, Anthony Volpe In Major Focus As Yankees Announce 29 Non-Roaster Invites For Spring Training

New York Yankees invites 29 non-roster players to participate in the upcoming 2023 MLB season spring training.

The 2023 MLB season is all set to begin in March. Ahead of the opening day, the teams are gearing up for the mandatory spring training, which will commence in the following weeks. Meanwhile, the New York Yankees, who went through an aggressive off-season, have set up a star-stubbed roster. Barring a few loopholes, the roster looks capable of edging past Houston Astros and contesting the World Series title.

In the meantime, the Yankees are gearing up for a crucial spring training session. The front office will look forward to addressing the pressing issues and hopefully finding resolutions. Apart from the main roster, the Yanks, on Tuesday, invited 29 non-roster players to have a go at the spring training camp. The bunch consists of players who are associated with the organization in some or other capacity. Furthermore, the Bombers’ top two prospects, Anthony Volpe and Jasson Dominguez, will remain in focus during the whole camp.

As the New York Yankees invite 29 non-roaster players for spring training, the focus remains on the club’s top two prospects, Anthony Volpe and Jasson Dominguez. Jasson has played two minor league seasons with the Yanks so far. Moreover, last season, the outfielder hit 15 homers and 59 RBIs with a .273 batting average. On top of that, Jasson emerged as the leading scorer of the Bombers’ in all the minor leagues. Owing to consistent performance, the young outfielder was ranked amongst the top prospects of the Yankees for the upcoming season.

The next in line is star shortstop Anthony Volpe. Volpe has been receiving massive hype ever since his debut in the minor league. Moreover, the fans have voiced his inclusion in the roster as the starting shortstop. The no.1 Yankees shortstop prospect might have to wait for his chance as he is unlikely to get a place in the first half of the season. Nonetheless, Anthony has a shot to prove himself in the spring training and possibly earn a spot on the starting roster.

Veterans Get An Invite Too, As The Yanks Want To Leave No Stone Unturned

Along with the young prospects, the New York Yankees also passed on spring training invites to a few notable veterans. Willie Calhoun, Billy McKinney, and Rafael Ortega are some names who could contest for a place in the 40-man roster. The left-field job is still open, and the trio could very well fill in their applications. As of now, Aaron Hicks and Oswald Cabrera have emerged as the front runners for the spot. Still, the fight is on, and spring training will decide the fate of the candidates.

Post the 29 invitees announcements, the Yankees spring training participants tally has now reached 69. The training camp will be held in the organization’s base camp in Tampa, Florida. Moreover, the pitchers and catchers are asked to report on February 16, and the rest of the rosters will join the camp at a later date.
