“Giancarlo Stanton Set To Serve Left Field For Yankees,” Confirms Manager Aaron Boone

According to New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone, Giancarlo Stanton could start in the left field this MLB season.

The New York Yankees have a massive hole in the left field as Andrew Benintendi left for the White Sox this off-season. Further, the front office could not bring a new face on board due to multiple limitations. Hence, the club is now looking at options internally available in the bullpen. While Aaron Hicks and Oswald Cabrera are the front runners, another prospect is peeping in as an option.

Giancarlo Stanton, who the Yankees acquired in a blockbuster trade with the Miami Marlins in 2017, has been considered a potential left-field option for the Yanks this season. The 33-year-old batted .211/.297/.462 in 398 at-bats, with 31 homers and 78 RBI last season. Moreover, this season, the designated hitter could likely receive a promotion to left field.

Giancarlo Stanton, the former National League MVP, and five-time All-Star, is set to make a position change for the New York Yankees in the upcoming 2023 season. After primarily serving as a designated hitter and occasional outfielder for the past few seasons, Stanton could likely play more regularly in left field for the Yankees. The Bombers’ manager, Aaron Boone, confirmed the same in the press meeting scheduled after the first official day of spring training.

Aaron Boone said Giancarlo Stanton would stay as the Yankees’ designated hitter for most of the season. But he is very much a part of the Yankees left field plan. Stanton hasn’t played much in the left field at the Yankees stadium in the Bronx, considering the dimensions. Further, Boone decided to keep things under wrap when asked if the DJ could play left field in Yankees stadium. If he can stay healthy and make a successful transition to left field, Stanton could be a pivotal contributor to the team’s success in the upcoming season.

“I think he’s gonna be primarily our DH more than anyone else,” said Aaron Boone.

Aaron Hicks, The Yankees’ First Choice For Left Field

As of now, Aaron Hicks is the most preferred choice for the left field for the New York Yankees this season. Despite having a terrible run, the Yanks’ front office has shown a lot of faith in the outfielder. Moreover, Hicks’ 2022 season ended prematurely due to a knee injury. However, the outfielder has fully recovered and will join spring training on time.

Meanwhile, Aaron Boone said Aaron Hicks is working well and making necessary adjustments related to his playing style. The skipper assured that Hicks is in a good space physically and mentally ready to compete at the highest level. As much as the fans hate the idea of Hicks starting at the left field, the options are limited. Hence, they will have to make peace with it for the time being. The upcoming spring training will reveal the true picture.
