The Yankees Could Use Oswald Cabrera As A Left-Fielder! Also Eyeing Michael Conforto For The Role

The New York Yankees have been on an extensive spending spree, and it would not be wrong to say that they have addressed most of the questions about the lineup for the future season. However, one lingering question that the team still needs to take care of is who will be their left-fielder. They tried to go shopping for some available options in the markets. But their rival got the better of them. Meanwhile, there is one player whom they could resort to in case they can not get a left-fielder.

Oswald Cabrera Could Be The Yankees\’ Left-Fielder!

Several left-field options, including Michael Conforto, Max Kepler, and Ian Happ, have been discussed in relation to the Yankees. However, December is almost ending, and the Yankees still have not been able to find a suitable left-field option for their lineup.

Oswald Cabrera

Super-utility player Oswaldo Cabrera, though, offers the Yankees an interesting left-field alternative from within the organization. He is an infielder by trade and filled in for the Yankees\’ other infielders, catcher, and pitcher last season. He very likely could have if manager Aaron Boone had asked. What makes Cabrera\’s achievement even more remarkable is how quickly he completed it. He participated in just 44 games in his first month with the MLB, August. Cabrera performed admirably, considering he only played outfield in four of his 580 minor-league games.

The sample size is larger when looking at Cabrera\’s stats in the right field, with 208 innings played. Aaron Judge is the premier glove in the same position. But the analytics nearly have you forgetting this. Cabrera displayed his powerful arm with six assists while posting a staggering +9 DRS in the right. Cabrera is only six feet tall and weighs an uncharacteristic 200 pounds, but he has a surprising amount of bat potential. He batted almost on pace with his minor league .269 with nine home runs and.851 OPS, hitting.247 with six home runs, a.740 OPS, and 111 wRC+.

The Bombers Also Eyeing Michael Conforto!

Michael Brantley signed a $12 million, one-year contract with the Houston Astros. Therefore the Yankees were out on him. The Yankees must act quickly to choose a left fielder before Michael Conforto, the top free agent on the market, is inexorably signed somewhere, and the possibilities become limited.

Since Conforto turned down a $100 million offer, only a year has passed. He ultimately had a shoulder injury that prevented him from playing in the 2022 season, leaving him vulnerable. With 125 games played, the left-handed batter had a strong 2021 season with the Mets. With 14 home runs, a 34.4% on-base percentage, and 55 RBIs, he hit.232. He hit 33 home runs in 2019, demonstrating that he had enough power to make the most of Yankee Stadium\’s tight right porch.
