Trent Grisham’s arrival at the New York Yankees comes with high expectations, given his track record of success with his previous team, the San Diego Padres. He was a part of the mega trade deal involving generational star Juan Soto. However, due to overloaded depth, he has been moved to the bench this year.
Nevertheless, with the regular season schedule heating up, Trent Grisham got a couple of games as he replaced captain Aaron Judge in center field. However, the former everyday starter failed to leave his mark on the plate, thus stemming debate about whether Grisham will thrive in a bench role with the Yankees.
Aaron Boone Confirms Bigger Plans For Fourth Outfielder Trent Grisham
As the New York Yankees moved on the road after a stellar home season debut, captain Aaron Judge was rested for Monday’s game against Toronto Blue Jays. Skipper Aaron Boone confirmed that he didn’t want Judge to play on all three days and, therefore, chose Monday as an off-day. That being said, Judge’s absence paved the way for fourth outfielder Trent Grisham. The elite defensive center fielder started in two games but failed to make a difference on the plate. On Monday, he went 0-for-2 with a walk and was thrown out trying to steal second base. Overall, Grisham is 0-for-10 with two walks and four strikeouts on the season. Naturally, questions about the center fielder not being able to adjust to the bench role were bound to rise.
However, New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone believes in Trent Grisham’s attitude and work standpoint. He understands that the bench role is an unknown territory for Grisham, who has been accustomed to starting his career. However, just because Grisham never stepped into the fourth outfielder role does not mean he does not possess the ability to thrive in it. “He hasn’t had a lot of runs yet. But there’s no reason to think he can’t be really valuable in a smaller role,” said Boone. Additionally, the skipper confirmed that Trent Grisham is a part of the bigger picture and will get his due at the right time. Overall, given the limited exposure to the change of scenery, Grisham’s numbers do not do justice to his talent and capabilities. As the season progresses, the center-fielder could surely thrive in the fourth outfielder’s role.
Yankees Lose Consecutive Games For The First Time This Season!
After splitting the three-game series against Cleveland Guardian 2-1, the New York Yankees met Toronto Blue Jays on Monday only to lose 3-1. Fifth starter Luis Gil had an erratic day as he gave up three earned run in five innings. On the flip side, the Bronx Bombers could only manage a single run off Gleyber Torres.
With that, the New York Yankees suffered two consecutive losses for the first time this year. So far, the Bombers have had a blazing start and are yet to lose a series. However, the Blue Jays’ series opener humbled the Yanks in the literal sense. Regardless, with the series at stake, action will resume on Tuesday.
