Lewis Hamilton is set to make a monumental switch to Ferrari in 2025 after spending 12 successful years with Mercedes. In the past decade, Lewis attained 82 grand prix wins and six world championship, which a record in itself for any driver in a single team.

However, with Mercedes hitting a snag post-2021, Lewis Hamilton chose to take a big swing on his final few years of the legendary F1 career. That being said, ahead of the historic switch, Hamilton rejected the preconceived notion of him being scared of the unknown factor at Ferrari as it’s a completely different arena altogether at Maranello.

Switching teams in Formula 1 is never easy on a driver as it requires extra effort to learn the team culture and connect with the engineers who are pioneers of machine development. And for Lewis Hamilton, the seven-time world champion, jumping ships to Ferrari in 2025 at the age of 40 will be nothing short of a daunting task. Lewis spent the last 12 years with Mercedes and is largely accustomed to a certain workflow. On the other hand, in Maranello, people operate differently. Ferrari’s core principle is to work in the best interest of the team and not a particular driver. Hence, Lewis mustn’t expect any special treatment in Italy as one of the most successful drivers in the sport.

On top of that, the unfamiliarity factor will also play a key role. Lewis Hamilton does not know anybody at Ferrari except team principal Fred Vasseur, with whom he worked in the past during his junior days at GP2. However, the Briton is not worried about the unfamiliarity factor much. He cited the example of his Mercedes switch in 2012 when he knew no one in Brackley as well. But that monumental move turned out well, and hence, Lewis is confident that the Ferrari move will also bring him the desired results. Additionally, Hamilton takes solace in the fact that  Loic Serra and Jerome D’Ambrosio, the two top Mercedes personnel, will also be moving with him to Maranello. “I worked with Loic for many years, and my first number two [mechanic], Jock [Clear], also works at the team,” Hamilton said.

Months after Lewis Hamilton dumped Mercedes to join hands with Scuderia Ferrari, team principal Toto Wolff has affirmed that he holds no hard feelings for his friend Lewis. Wolff revealed that Lewis changed his mind during winter break after committing for Mercedes. But regardless, he respects his opinion and holds no grudge against the British driver.

Moreover, Toto Wolff added that if Ferrari succeeds in offering a competitive car to Lewis Hamilton, he is certain the Briton can win a championship. And in case that happens, Wolff revealed he would he to see Hamilton succeed as a friend. “When Lewis moves to Ferrari, he will become an opponent. But I will always wish him happy days,” said Wolff.
