The 2023 MLB season posed unparalleled challenges for the New York Yankees, the kind the new generation were not accustomed to. Understandably, the team failed to recover and finished outside the postseason. The Yanks finished fourth in AL-East with an awful 82-80 record in the 162-game stretch.

The lost season put the New York Yankees’ leadership and roster under scrutiny. However, managing partner Hal Steinbrenner showed utmost faith and confidence in the organization. However, Steinbrenner will run out of patience this year if the Bronx Bombers fail to overcome the previous year’s challenges. It’s safe to say the Bombers are entering a make-or-break season in 2023.

The New York Yankees’ postseason performances in recent years have fallen short of expectations. Early exits and missed opportunities to advance deep into the playoffs have put the team in a bad light. Despite consistently fielding competitive teams during the regular season, the club has struggled to translate their regular-season success into postseason glory. And the 2023 season was no different. The team recorded its worst season in decades-long history and fell to an all-time low. Regardless of the lackluster, Hal Steinbrenner refused to shake up leadership roles within the franchise. The likes of Brian Cashman and Aaron Boone continue to retain their managerial positions as Yanks struggle on the field. Having said that, things will change in 2024.

Managing partner Hal Steinbrenner has been under immense pressure to shake things up. Another lackluster season will add to the stakeholders’ and fans’ frustration. Thus, Will Leitch of MLB.com states that the 2024 season is a make-or-break year for the Bronx Bombers. A postseason elimination will result in big shake-ups in the front office staff, manager, and head of baseball operations. While Steinbrenner has historically refrained from firing people over failures, the pressure for change is growing more than ever. Also, the Yanks’ key players are approaching the latter stages of their careers, including stalwarts such as Aaron Judge and Gerrit Cole. As such, the 2024 season presents a crucial window of opportunity for the Yankees to capitalize on the remaining prime years of their core players. It would be interesting to see how the club reacts to the pressure and unprecedented challenges this year.

More than anyone, the stakes have never been higher for New York Yankees skipper Aaron Boone. The manager will enter his final year of the contract in 2025. And as it is largely believed, the future beyond that will solely depend on the team’s performance. Interestingly, Boone’s job was also under threat this year.

However, positive recommendations from Aaron Judge, the rest of the Yankee roster, and key franchise professionals saved the day. Having said that, the 2024 season will be the final straw. Boone’s future, not just in the Bronx but also as MLB team manager, will largely depend on the results of the 2024 season.
