Mercedes star driver Lewis Hamilton has often been regarded as one of the most successful drivers in the history of F1. He holds the record for most race and pole wins and is a joint record holder of the most championship titles. Hamilton’s lethal form in the turbo hybrid era was invincible.

From 2014 to 2020, Lewis Hamilton won six championship titles with Mercedes. He faced stiff competition from rivals and teammates. However, the British driver always rose above fear and to establish his unparalleled dominance on the track. But what exactly set the Briton apart from the rest of the gird?

Former Mercedes chief strategist and current William team principal James Vowles worked with Lewis Hamilton during the team’s dominant turbo hybrid era. However, James faced steep challenges when he had to manage highly competitive teammates in Hamilton and Nico Rosberg. Meanwhile, Vowles recently opened up on the Briton’s unique trait in the High Performance podcast. He said Hamilton possessed natural talents, and his unique tendencies and traits set him apart from his peers. James recalled how Lewis would act like an octopus in FP1, trying to explore all the settings and limitations of the steering wheel. The Briton was never afraid to push the limits and explore the full potential of the machinery.

He would often go for his gut feeling instead of the data analysis. While that approach backfired a couple of times, Lewis Hamilton evolved with time to become the mature driver he is today. “Because he’s explored all these boundaries, he knows in just a few laps during FP1 what the boundaries of the car are. Therefore, he understands how to get the car into the right position as the grip comes up,” said James Vowles. Undoubtedly, the Mercedes star is extremely passionate about F1. He dedicated a major part of his life to the sport. And thus is well versed in the nitty gritty of the specifics. Of course, the current struggles are something the driver has never faced before. But the determination and hunger to win is still intact. With that same killer mindset, the British driver will step into the 2024 season to regain the lost dominance.

Meanwhile, F1 driver Perry McCarthy has urged Lewis Hamilton to stop complaining about the lack of support in F1. He explained his point, saying the Mercedes ace has achieved everything a driver dreams of. From record race wins to seven championship titles, Lewis has almost every other big record to his name.

Thus, he isn’t in a position to call out discrimination and lack of support in F1. Lewis Hamilton has always been vocal about the lack of recognition for people of color in motorsport. As the only driver of black ethnicity on the grid, the Mercedes star became the flag bearer of protest against injustice. However, his strong stand has often invited criticism. But the driver refuses to stand down regardless.
