This week has been quite eventful in the MLB arena. The New York Yankees successfully re-signed Aaron Judge. On the other hand, several other players whose fates have been hanging in the balance are also finding their way to the teams. Even though the Yankees managed to get Aaron Judge, The Cubs snatched Jameson Taillon, and the Padres have also signed Xander Bogaerts.

San Diego Padres Signs Xander Bogaerts For 7 Years!

After reaching an agreement with Xander Bogaerts, the San Diego Padres acquired one of Major League Baseball\’s best shortstops. Bogaerts joined the Padres in an 11-year, $280 million contract, giving an already stellar infield yet another star.

By signing Trevor Story to a six-year deal in the off-season, the Red Sox added to their already-crowded middle infield. Due to Xander Bogaerts, he moved to second base. But with this change, he may now return to shortstop. This story has so far let down Boston audiences. In a 2022 season marred by injuries and limited to 94 games, the two-time All-Star recorded a career-low.737 OPS.

Jeff Passan of ESPN reports that the All-Star shortstop has signed an 11-year, $280 million contract. This marked the end of his ten-year run with the Boston Red Sox and provided San Diego with another mega-deal. Xander Bogaerts went free agency after opting out of the remaining three years of his six-year, $120 million contract deal inked in 2019. He apparently refused the Red Sox\’s qualifying offer, adding compensation in the form of a draft selection to his agreement.

Although his 2020 campaign didn\’t exactly live up to those expectations, Xander Bogaerts still hit .300/.364/.502 with 11 home runs in 56 games. He was among the Red Sox\’s few shining moments as they finished last with a 24-36 record. Boston had a much stronger year in 2021, going 92-70 for the season. With an OPS of.863 and 23 home runs in 144 games, Bogaerts served as one of the offense\’s main pillars. Bogaerts\’ difficulties in the field rank lowest among 19 qualifying shortstops, with a minus-26 defensive run saved from 2018 to 22.

According to Alex Speier of the Boston Globe, the Red Sox tried to retain Xander Bogaerts. But their last contract offer didn\’t even reach $200 million. With Xander on the team, the Padres will unquestionably be stronger. It\’s difficult to believe the Padres won\’t work things out before the season starts and begin 2023 as early favorites to make a significant postseason run now that another well-known player has joined the team.
