New York Yankees’ highly promising youth movement was short-lived. Just two weeks after the top prospects made their way into the big leagues, the injury bug chased the hot guys out. Earlier this week, the team placed 20-year-old Jasson Dominguez on 10-day IL. After a thumping debut, the Martian set up a franchise record with back-to-back home runs.

However, last weekend, Jasson Dominguez skipped the series finale vs. the Brewers due to elbow discomfort, which turned out to be a UCL tear. The injury will shut the kid down for nine to ten months. Just as the Yankees were trying to sink in Dominguez’s loss, another injury scare to a top prospect has caused concern to the fans. How serious is the scare, and what the fans should expect?

The series opener between arch-rivals New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox was interrupted by rain. Hence, the authorities rescheduled the game to Tuesday, which will now host a doubleheader. However, ahead of the game, the Yanks announced their starting lineup. Moreover, Oswald Peraza’s absence raised eyebrows as the infielder had been scratched from the lineup for the second time in a row. Peraza did not feature in the series finale vs. the Brewers as well. As speculations started to build over, skipper Aaron Boone turned up with some answers. The manager revealed that the infielder had some swelling on the outside of his left knee.

Apparently, Oswald Peraza endured the same injury during spring training. It seems like a case of a relapse. Fortunately, the MRI scans came out clean, which ruled out the worst-case scenario. For now, Peraza will be treated day to day, with a return during Tuesday’s doubleheader uncertain. Having said that, the Yankees seem to be heading in the right direction. Guys like Peraza and Dominguez remain the future of the franchise. Hence, risking them in a meaningless season seems unideal, as the Yanks have already crashed out of the playoffs. On the brighter side, the infielder has been performing well since returning to the big leagues last month. Moreover, in the last seven games, he averaged .370 with a .889 OPS. Hopefully, Peraza escaped the injury scare to continue his battle for the 2024 roster spot.

Jasson Dominguez Likely Headed For Tommy John Surgery

While Oswald Peraza has escaped a major scare, his teammate Jasson Dominguez encountered the worst side of his fate. A minor elbow discomfort turned out to be a UCL tear, which shocked the Yankees as well as the kid himself. He says he never expected the injury scare to turn out this serious. He is being shut down for the season, with participation in 2024 in jeopardy.

A UCL tear will require surgery, and the New York Yankees are apparently mulling for Tommy John surgery. While nothing is scheduled for now, Jasson Dominguez is unlikely to escape the surgical route. That means the kid would be shut down for nine to ten months, placing his return timeline somewhere around July next year. It is certainly devastating for the kid as well as the franchise, who were banking heavily on the prospect.
