Jasson Dominguez has been hot since debuting in Major Leagues at the age of 20. In eight games played with the New York Yankees, the Martian averaged .258 with four home runs, seven RBIs, and a .980 OPS. The rookie has been smashing record after record with every long hit.
However, it seems the New York Yankees’ misfortune of the 2023 MLB season did not even spare the kid. On Sunday, Jasson Dominguez missed the series finale against the Brewers due to undisclosed reasons. He was apparently scratched from the lineup at the last moment. However, what followed proved to be the franchise’s biggest and worst nightmare.
Jasson Dominguez Has Reportedly Torn The UCL Of Right Elbow; Surgery Likely!
If you thought the season could not get any worse for the New York Yankees, you were highly mistaken. After paralyzing the older group, the injury bug has now victimized the kids. After being scratched out of the lineup vs. the Brewers, Jasson Dominguez was sent for scans as he had some issues with his right elbow. Apparently, Dominguez had reported discomfort way back during his debut series in Houston. But since it did not affect his demeanor on the plate, the club interestingly chose to ignore the complaint. That turned out to be the team’s biggest mistake, as they allowed Dominguez to play through minor discomfort, which certainly got worse over time.
Meanwhile, reports are emerging which state that Jasson Dominguez has torn the UCL of his right elbow and will likely need surgery for the same. If the surgery goes on floors, the kid could miss most of the 2024 season, which could prove devastating for the Yankees. The Martian was a part of the club’s 2024 masterplan. After the kind of debut he had this season, Dominguez’s place in the next season’s starting lineup was more or less fixated. But, it seems fate had different plans for the prospect as his imminent future in the big leagues has come under serious threat. Aaron Boone, the skipper, confirmed the injury and said that they didn’t think it to be turned out so serious. It was because Jasson was able to play like his usual self. Having said that, the franchise certainly should have been a lot more cautious.
Probable Injury Timeline for Yankees Martian!
The damage is already done. So what now? First and foremost, the New York Yankees are yet to schedule a surgery, which seems unavoidable. But if Jasson Dominguez indeed ends up under the knife, it would take 8-10 months for him to heal fully. That places his return somewhere around the middle of the 2024 season, barring any setbacks. Also, the Martian remains the prized possession of the club. Hence, his recovery will not be rushed under any circumstances.
Jasson Dominguez’s departure will leave a hole in the center field. For the remainder of the current season, Isiah Kiner-Falefa is likely to take his place. However, in the future, the team will need a strong and permanent solution. The front office will have to remain active during free agency to fill up the roster’s shortcomings.
