As per an MLB insider, New York Yankees could ask Aaron Judge to station himself at the left field this season.
New York Yankees made a major goof-up this season by not signing a designated left fielder during free agency. The buyouts did not work out due to luxury tax regulations. On top of that, a couple of trade deals fell apart due to mutual disagreement. Hence, the front office is not forced to make adjustments internally within the existing roster.
Ahead of opening day, Yankees manager Aaron Boone hinted at Aaron Hicks’ selection for the left field role. However, a few other names, such as Oswaldo Cabrera, also emerged as potential candidates. Meanwhile, as per an MLB insider, the Yanks’ front office wants to experiment a little and might field an unusual right-field candidate on the left field.
Will Aaron Judge Play Left Field This Season?
The New York Yankees are reportedly considering playing their star outfielder Aaron Judge in a new position for the upcoming 2023 MLB season. According to reports, the team is exploring the possibility of moving Judge from right field to left field, a move that could have significant implications for both the Yankees’ defense and their overall roster construction.
As per MLB insider Joel Sherman, Yankees manager Aaron Boone wants to move Judge to left in order to fit in Giancarlo Stanton at the outfield. The Bombers want to avoid fielding Stanton off the left at the Yankees stadium and hence will experiment with Judge. As a matter of fact, Aaron moved to center field last season due to injury concerns. However, the slugger has not played left field since 2016. Hence, pushing him to that position is too big of a risk for the Yankees at this stage. It could affect his game which the Yanks cannot afford at any cost.
Yankees Captain Admits Not Winning Championship Title Bothers The Team
New York Yankees’ newly appointed captain, Aaron Judge, addressed the press meeting after a spring training session. Judge said not winning the championship title for 13 years and counting bothers him, as well as the team at large. However, the slugger assured the fans that his ultimate goal remains to bring the trophy back home to New York, and he will push the team in that direction this season.
“It bothers me (not winning the championship title), and I think it bothers the group as well,” said Aaron Judge.
Aaron Judge further added that the reason he came back to don the pinstripes was to help the team win the World Seris title. He felt like it was an unfinished business left in New York, and he intends to put an end to it this season. FYI, the Yankees lost to Astros last season in the ALCS. Despite record 99 wins, a division title, and a lead on the head-to-head scoreline, the Yanks somehow failed to show up on d-day and lost the title. It’s been 13 years since the Yanks brought the World Series ring home.
