The Yankees look all set apart from the left-field position in the bullpen. However, that problem could be solved after the Bombers train Aaron Hicks and Oswaldo Cabrera to fill the position. Although Hicks and Cabrera are not the most desired player for the Yankees, they will do the job for now.
It is very unlikely for the Yankees to settle for a player who is not the best. But the players that New York was targeting are not particularly available. The Pittsburgh Pirates’ Bryan Reynolds could have been the perfect fit for the team, which always aims to win. However, the Pirates are reluctant to let their best-left outfielder leave them. Even Reynolds himself has asked to move on from the club, but his high price displays that the team won’t let him go easy.
Aaron Hicks’s Chance To Start For The Yankees Are On The Rise
Aaron Hicks, a veteran outfielder for the Yankees, appears to be on track to begin spring training as the projected starting left-fielder for the team. According to Bob Klapisch from Newark Star-Ledger, the team is not expected to make any significant moves for the remainder of the off-season. However, Hicks will compete with Oswaldo Cabrera, Estevan Florial, and Rafael Ortega, a non-roster invitee, for a full-time spot on the Opening Day roster.
Hicks is contracted for $29.5 million till 2025 but had a decline in his performance in 2022. His slash line was .216/.330/.313, and he had eight home runs and ten stolen bases from 453 plate appearances. He suffered a knee injury on October 18th and was ruled out for the remainder of the Yankees’ post-season. He required a six-week recovery period after the injury. However, it is assumed that he should be back to full health for the Yankees this year.
Hicks Is The Only Options For The Bombers
A-A Ron is emerging as the primary candidate to play left field for the New York Yankees at the beginning of the 2023 MLB season. The left outfielder has been on the market for ten years, but this year is his chance. According to sources, the team does not plan to make significant changes during the remainder of the off-season. It will allow Hicks to secure the position during spring training.
Aaron Hicks has spent ten seasons in the Major Leagues, 7 of which were with the New York Yankees. During his time with the team, Hicks had a .231 batting average and a .330 on-base percentage. His best year with the team was in 2018, when he hit 27 home runs, drove 79 runs, and had a solid .366 on-base percentage. It looks like Hicks could be the player that the Yankees want.
