Will The Yankees TRADE Giancarlo Stanton & Oswaldo Cabrera To Fix The Bullpen Before The Next Season?

After going through several highs and lows throughout the season, the Yankees\’ campaign finally came to an end after getting defeated by the Astros in ALCS. Now, the team would like to use this time off to fix holes in their squad so that they can come back stronger in the next season. And many believe that the Yankees need to trade off Giancarlo Stanton to rebuild their squad.

For the majority of his time with the Yankees, Giancarlo Stanton has suffered several injuries. Although he is a fantastic power hitter, his stint with the New York Yankees went beyond the stat sheet. He had impressive postseason stats. The Boston Red Sox were totally under his control, and it\’s lovely. The issues, though, are with his general reliability, accessibility, and adaptability.

By the end of this year, Stanton will be 38. Thus the question arises it really worth it for the Yankees to pay him 32 million? It\’s uncertain whether they\’ll even agree to do that because no one will take on that deal, but stranger things have happened. However, the Yankees should feel more urgency in this situation if they compare Stanton\’s accomplishments to the other players they passed on. 

The Yankees cannot have a guy worth $25+ million committed to the DH position if they want to stay inside their budget. The same old struggling Yankees will return if Judge signs a $40+ million AAV and no additional money is willing to be spent. Stanton\’s injury destroyed this team in 2019 and 2020. His story of two seasons in 2021 and 2022 also served this purpose. Therefore, it is uncertain whether the Yankees will keep Stanton for the next season or let him go.

Why Is Oswaldo Cabrera Important For The Bombers?

His trademark has always been his bat, and for a good cause, too, is Oswaldo Cabrera. Switch-hitting middle infielders who can register over 40 home runs and 30+ steals throughout just 162 games in the high minors don\’t appear out of thin air, not even in minor league stadiums with juiced balls and bandboxes.

Given how brief Cabrera\’s stint was, it is not worthwhile to dwell too much on his directional effectiveness. Simply put, the sample size is insufficient to draw any conclusions regarding his ability to break back or in or whether he responds to balls hit to his left rather than his right. In a nutshell, the analytics largely favor Cabrera in the outfield. He has a relatively small amount of experience, yet he seems to have an uncanny ability to be first to the ball.
