Seven-time F1 world champion Lewis Hamilton took a wild swing at this future when he decided to join hands with Ferrari for the 2025 season. While he hugged Mercedes boss Toto Wolff before winter break, Lewis announced his abrupt breakup in their next meeting weeks later.
That being said, Lewis Hamilton is entering an unknown territory at the age of 39, thus abandoning his 10-year successful legacy with Mercedes. Naturally, doubts over the reasonability of this move were bound to rise. Amid the chatter, the recently sacked Haas team principal weighed his thoughts and sided with Hamilton’s thought process.
Guenther Steiner Approves Lewis Hamilton’s Shocking Switch To Ferrari!
Lewis Hamilton’s choice of abandoning his Mercedes legacy to embark on a new journey at Ferrari from 2025 onwards sent shockwaves across the F1 community. Many critics felt perhaps the seven-time world champion lost faith in Mercedes given the recent incessant struggles. However, former Haas team principal Guenther Steiner begs to differ. While talking for Sky Sports, Steinbrenner deemed Lewis’ decision to join hands with Ferrari an apt and sensible one. He cited the example of when the Briton ditched a successful team like McLaren to join a rebuilding Mercedes. The idea then was to embrace a new challenge, and the idea now is the same, as Steiner feels. The former team principal added that as Lewis Hamilton approaches the final stage of his career, he wants to embrace new and final challenges.
“Obviously, the last challenge is being Ferrari; it is a nice thing to have the opportunity to do this,” said Guenther Steiner. The ex-Haas boss is spot-on in his analysis to an extent. While explaining his sudden change of heart, Lewis Hamilton admitted that he wanted a change of scenery. And he chose Ferrari to relish his childhood dream. While he is grateful for the legacy and success built at Mercedes, Lewis Hamilton is confident of finishing on a high in red overalls. Of course, the transfer of the century shook the core of F1. But Lewis has always followed his heart. And his heart now belongs to Ferrari which offered him not only the most expensive contract but also a future role as an ambassador for the iconic Italian team. The 39-year-old signed a multi-year contract with Ferrari earlier this year and will jump ships in 2025.
Toto Wolff Throws Challenge At Hamilton Ahead Of Ferrari Switch
Lewis Hamilton is in his final dance with Mercedes this year. He is set to join Ferrari on a multi year contract from 2025. However, ahead of the monumental switch, Mercedes boss Toto Wolff issued a stern warning to the seven time world champion.
While talking about Lewis Hamilton’s iconic driver switch, Toto Wolff revealed he told the Briton to picture Mercedes rear wing as that will be his driver’s eye view next year. While Mercedes cannot edge past McLaren this year, Wolff dreams of beating the Ferraris in 2025. Only time will tell who is delusional and who is ambitious.
