Since the year 2021, Max Verstappen has brought glory days back to the Red Bull camp. Before that, Mercedes solely dominated the Formula One grid from 2014 to 2021. Although before that, Red Bull was a dominant force on the paddock, with Sebastian Vettel steering the wheel. But it took many moons to find a new racing hero in the form of the Dutchman. Albeit, Mercedes won the 2021 constructor’s championship. However, Verstappen managed to beat Lewis Hamilton to become the 2021 driver’s world champion.
Since then, it has been Red Bull all the way. Last year, they single-handedly dominated the grid, winning both driver’s as well as constructor’s championships. Max Verstappen won his second world title, winning 15 races out of 22. He broke the record for the most race wins in a season, and the most points won in a season. Michael Schumacher and Sebastian Vettel had the previous record for winning 13 races in a season. And when asked about the real mantra for this humungous success, Verstappen revealed that they followed a “golden rule.” But what is that rule? Keep reading to find out.
Max Verstappen Discussed About His And Red Bull’s Success Mantra
However, in 2023 Red Bull started brilliantly, winning all the races so far. Max Verstappen has won three, and Sergio Perez has won a couple of races. Red Bull had multiple one-twos finishes this current season. Verstappen recently talked about the team’s and his success mantra. He was speaking with Motorsport.com when he mentioned, “I had to wait and have patience. Everything did not click in my first year with Red Bull. But I trusted the project, and seeing everybody in the team so motivated, really helped.” Indeed it was not an easy time when he started racing for Red Bull. Max Verstappen was the youngest F1 driver to win a GP. However, it was the turbo-hybrid era, and Mercedes had complete hegemony on the grid.
It was impossible to beat Lewis Hamilton for several years as he was at his peak. Max had to wait for five years in F1 to taste his first world title. Moreover, thanks to the governing bodies for changing the regulations, it has helped Red Bull enjoy complete hegemony on the grid ever since. On the other hand, Mercedes has been struggling with their W14 car and its concept since last year. But Red Bull is enjoying dominance because of the RB19 car, as it is the fastest at the moment. Moreover, thanks to Red Bull and Honda’s engine partnership as it has worked miracles. They have come up with a car that is smooth and fast under the cost cap rule when other teams are really facing issues with their respective cars.
Red Bull’s Internal Rivalry Intensifies As Competition Extends
Moreover, the competition between Checo and Verstappen is growing stronger than ever before. Sergio Perez would not want to play a supporting role to Max Verstappen any longer. On the other hand, Verstappen is gearing up to win the race in Monaco because Sergio Perez beat him the last time they were there.
The Dutchman is leading the table, but the season may get more interesting if Checo wins a few more GPs. Sergio Perez has a good chance to win in Monaco as he is pretty good at street circuits. The Mexican is the only driver to win two races in Baku, Azerbaijan.
