San Francisco Giants pitcher Logan Webb is all set to face Aaron Judge in the 2023 season opener for the first time after the free agency fiasco.
Aaron Judge, the New York Yankees captain, created a lot of buzz during this year’s off-season. He initially refused a long-term extension contract with the Yankees and held talks with multiple rival teams. However, after a month of playing musical chairs, the slugger returned back home to New York with a gigantic nine-year deal for a whooping salary of $360 million.
A day before the contract extension announcement, Aaron Judge was roaming around the streets of San Francisco, wherein he allegedly held deal negotiations with the Giants. An MLB insider named Jon Heyman confidently confirmed Judge’s agreement to sign a long deal. However, just a day later, the Yankees owner announced the reinstatement of the slugger, which broke the hearts of millions of Giants fans.
Logan Webb Set To Tackle Aaron Judge In The Season Opener
The San Francisco Giants team and the fans were left heartbroken after slugger Aaron Judge decided to extend his stay in New York. Many even accused him of using these negotiations as leverage to increase his contract value with the Yankees. Regardless, Judge had made up his mind. He stated that his heart and soul belong to New York, and he has some unfinished business left to fulfill. However, the Giants were having none of it and publically expressed their disappointment.
Meanwhile, as the Yankees prepare to face the Giants for the 2023 MLB season opener on March 30, Giants pitcher Logan Webb has opened up on his feelings about facing Judge. In a ‘Willard & Dibs’ radio program, Webb was heaving a light-hearted conversation wherein he was asked if he would punk Judge the first time he sees him during the game. To this, Webb responded, saying, “No, I will not.” He further explained that Aaron Judge is one of the nicest guys out there, and he would not resort to such extreme means even though he feels sad to lose him out in the free agency. He later sarcastically joked about getting a friendly welcome from the Yankees’ fans during the game.
Judge Reportedly Turned Down $400 Million Contract From The Padres
Aaron Judge’s manager recently made a startling revelation about the slugger’s free agency rendezvous. Judge remained major linked to the San Francisco Giants for the whole off-season. However, according to one of his managers, Judge even held positive talks with San Diego Padres. Moreover, the Padres offered a whopping $400 million contract for a period of 12 years.
As tempting as it looks, our homeboy rejected the contract in a heartbeat. He said his heart belongs to New York, and he wants to stay by any means. Hence, Aaron Judge immediately called up Hal Steinbrenner, the owner of the franchise, and asked him to draw up a contract. Hal, on his part, accepted all of Judge’s demands and successfully locked him for nine long years.
