Yankees Want Andrew Benintendi To Upgrade The Bullpen! But Is It Really A Good Option After His Wrist Injury?

On Wednesday last week, the New York Yankees achieved what they have wanted since Aaron turned down their contract. The team finally signed the slugger for a nine-year contract. However, even after signing Judge, the Yankees\’ work is far from done. For the past several weeks, the front office\’s lingering interest in the outfielder Andrew Benintendi has been in the headlines. Reportedly, the team is looking to sign Benintendi. But is he really the answer to all the Yankees\’ questions?

Is Andrew Benintendi Really A Good Option For The Yankees?

The New York Yankees sadly lost a highly viable left-field option for the 2023 season. Recently, Joc Pederson accepted the qualifying offer from the San Francisco Giants. Now, with fewer choices available, the gap in the left field appears much larger right now. People are attempting to mix and match various participants in their games. And looks like fans appear to be quite eager to see Andrew Benintendi again. It\’s unclear why, though. After the trade deadline, he participated in just 33 games with the Bombers before breaking his wrist. As a result, he was sidelined for the remainder of the season.

The outfielder\’s return to the pinstripes may be of interest to the Bronx Bombers. However, the sentiment may not always be shared. Some people in the company think Benintendi didn\’t even like living in New York City, according to Brendan Kuty of NJ.com. Additionally, he could like a smaller market closer to his house in St. Louis. Benintendi has attracted interest from the Houston Astros as well.

Lately, Benintendi improved his strikeout rate over his 1.5 years with the Royals. He previously had a 19% strikeout percentage when playing for Boston, whiffing 400 times in 485 games. In 227 games for Kansas City, he only struck out 149 times, a 16% percentage. But after joining the Yankees, he was struck out 25 times in just 33 games.

Andrew Benintendi only hit five home runs with 51 RBIs across 126 games played between the Kansas City Royals and New York Yankees, batting.304. Benintendi was chosen for the MLB All-Star Team for the first time in his seven-year MLB career, even though his power stats were among the lowest in his career. Benintendi played more than 400 games for the Boston Red Sox from 2016 to 2020, helping them win the World Series in 2018.

Andrew Benintendi won\’t be a cheap signing, regardless of which team chooses to make a move. MLBTR.com forecasts that the 28-year-old outfielder may sign a deal worth up to $54 million over four years. While Benintendi might never become the superstar, he appeared to be when he was playing for the Boston Red Sox in his early years. He should still be a good player for his new team. Benintendi will offer seasoned leadership to any club he joins and be an All-Star, Gold Glove winner, and World Series champion.
