In just two weeks, the MLB trade deadline for the 2023 season will come into effect, and the New York Yankees are likely to be active participants. The Yankees, known for their rich history and tradition of success, have faced their fair share of challenges in the current season. Injuries to key players, inconsistent performances, and fierce competition have all contributed to a rollercoaster ride of a season for the Bronx Bombers.

As of this writing, the Yankees are currently seated at the bottom of the East division with a record of 50-45. The second half has already commenced, and the playoff berth looks way out of reach. These factors will prompt the team to look for options at the trade window actively. Meanwhile, rumors have flown that Brian Cashman might overhaul the entire roster in a bid to increase postseason odds.

Yankees Likely To Bolster Entire Roster And Not Just The Offense!

Ahead of the trade deadline, the Yankees have been linked to multiple outfield options like Juan Soto, Cody Bellinger, and Shohei Ohtani. They seem low on outfield depth, and hence the rumors seem reasonable. However, as per MLB reporter Mark Feinsand, the team is also looking to upgrade catching, starting rotation, and bullpen. It clearly suggests that the team is aiming to overhaul the entire lineup. But is it possible? For starters, the Bombers do not even need to address these many areas. Their top focus should be offense and starting rotation. Of course, the addition of an outfielder is the need of the hour.

But apart from this, addressing the pitching rotation limitations must also be on the to-do list. Nestor Cortes is on IL, while Luis Severino is playing with an ERA of 6. Hence, the team needs fresh arms. Multiple targets have been linked to the team in the past, but the team is yet to make a move. All things considered, the Yanks will only bolster the outfield and rotation depth for now. Overhauling the lineup this late in the tournament seems like an unreasonable strategy, especially for a high-end team like the Yankees. The club’s leadership and front office are committed to fielding a competitive team that can contend for a playoff spot.

Yanks Interested In Cardinals OF Dylan Carlson

The last time the Yankees engaged in a trade with St. Louis Cardinals, they landed Harrison Bader, and the rest is history. Hence, the team is looking for another change in fortune with another trade target, Dylan Carlson. Dylan remains a perfect left-field candidate whose time at the Cardinals is limited due to competition from Tyler O’Neill. Moreover, the outfielder is hitting .237 with five home runs and 20 RBIs this season.

Dylan Carlson is under the Cardinals’ control till 2027. Hence, a trade with the Yankees will allow him to grow in the most prestigious MLB organization. The outfielder is just 24 years old and has loads of potential. His current form also makes him an ideal candidate. If the Cardinals show a little mercy in exchange, the Yanks have a high chance of landing Dylan at the trade deadline.
