The New York Yankees are looking to make big changes in this offseason. This year, the Bronx Bombers had been through the worst season they have seen in the last thirty years. Hence, the franchise is looking to utilize the extra month of the offseason they got this year to rebuild the roster. Previously, the owner, Hal Steinbrenner, mentioned they would make some changes in the personnel and some not from the personnel.
As per the Yanks Go Yard, the Yankees decided to release six players from their roster. That’s how they’ll begin the process of rebuilding the roster this offseason. Moreover, there have been a lot of extras taking up a lot of space in the 40-member roster of the NY side. It is time to make more space in the roster if the Yankees want to sign talents like Juan Soto and some more in free agency.
NY Side Released Six Players To Kick-start The Rebuilding Process
Finally, the famous audit of Hal Steinbrenner is here. Moreover, the Yankees suddenly woke up from their slumber as they realized it was high time to release some players taking extra space. Yanks Go Yard reports that the Yankees released Domingo German, Matt Bowman, Franchy Cordero, Jimmy Cordero, Ryan Weber and Billy McKinney this Thursday. Moreover, the Bronx Bombers should have let Domingo German go four years ago. Hence, his release is a bit too late. However, it is just the beginning, as the NY side still has a lot of players who don’t fit in the roster. Domingo and Jimmy had a lot of issues with their behavior.
German was really high when he caused a rage in the clubhouse. The Yankees had to suspend him later. In the past July, even Jimmy Cordero faced suspension due to the same reason. However, Ryan Weber could have stayed longer with the NY side. But he will be a burden as he sustained an injury that will rule him out for the entire 2024 season. Moreover, Weber had to undergo Tommy John surgery. The other three players never really contribute regularly to a roster that wants to be a contender. But it is not enough, as the Yankees do house a lot of fodder. Hence, they need to clear out more space to bring quality and impactful talents.
Yankees Need To Redeem Themselves
For the first time since 2016, they failed to make the postseason. Moreover, they managed to win 82 games, whereas they lost in 80 games. It has been a tremendous shame for the NY side, who have won a record 27 World Series in the past. They last appeared in a World Series in 2009.
Moreover, that was the time when they won their 27th World Series. Hence, it has been more than a decade since the Yankees fans are waiting for the next World Series glory. In the last few years, the Yankees could make the postseason but won’t go very far. But this year, even the postseason seemed too far to reach for the Bronx Bombers.
