The New York Yankees need to do some serious thinking as their injury list is getting longer and wider with each passing day.

Bronx Bombers’ front office is having sleepless nights in the midst of spring training as injuries continue to pile up. They face the daunting task of rebuilding the entire roster from scratch in just two weeks. Meanwhile, the New York Yankees have confirmed their opening day starter for their first clash against the San Francisco Giants, and its received mixed reactions from the fans.

The Yankees starting pitching rotation is in shambles after they lost four of their starter within a week’s time. First, they lost Frankie Montas, followed by Nestor Cortes, Tommy Kahnle, and Carlos Rodon. Rodon’s injury is a severe hit, as the southpaw was supposed to lead the rotation alongside Gerrit Cole. Hence, Cole remains the only healthy member of the rotation in the bullpen.

Meanwhile, the New York Yankees manager, Aaron Boone, confirmed that their ace pitcher, Gerrit Cole, will be their opening-day starter against the Giants on March 30. Cole stays largely regarded as one of the top pitchers in baseball, and his selection as the team’s opening-day starter is not surprising. Moreover, the pitcher signed a record-breaking nine-year contract for $324 million in 2019. In 2022, Cole posted a 3.50 ERA with 257 strikeouts, the most in the history of MLB.

However, fans are not happy with the front office’s decision. Notably, Gerrit Cole gave away a lot more home runs which caused a problem in the longer run. Some fans believe that another pitcher on the team deserves the honor more or that Cole’s performance in 2022 did not merit such a selection. Whereas others may worry about Cole’s health, as he has a long history of persistent injuries. Regardless of any concerns or objections, the selection of Gerrit Cole as the Yankees’ Opening Day starter is a no-brainer for the Yankees as they have absolutely no depth in the rotation.

Carlos Rodon Escapes Major Injury Scare, Likely To Get Healthy As Per Set Timetable

Meanwhile, the New York Yankees’ most hyped-up pitcher of the 2023 season, Carlos Rodon, will begin his season on the injury list, as confirmed by the front office. However, Rodon has apparently suffered from a strain on his throwing arm and will miss out on 6-8 weeks of baseball-related activities. The southpaw’s injury is a major cause of concern for the Yanks, as he was supposed to play second fiddle to Gerrit Cole in the rotation.

However, the Yankee fanbase has breathed a sigh of relief as the pitcher has escaped a major scare. According to his fresh MRI reports, Rodon has no UCL on his forearm. This means that his forearm has just some minor discomfort which is likely to heal in a short span of time. Moreover, if all things go well, we can expect Carlos to make his Yankees debut somewhere around April.
