The New York Yankees, poised to sail to the playoffs whilst clinging AL-East Division, have some important decisions to make before October approaches. For instance, manager Aaron Boone is desperately trying to fix the overflowing rotation depth that presently consists of as many as six pitchers.
The depth increased after Clarke Schmidt and Luis Gil returned from IL together. That being said, manager Aaron Boone has promised that before playoffs begin, the three-man rotation will be fixed. And his latest bullpen decision could be a hint of what’s coming for the Yankees rotation in the next few weeks.
Marcus Stroman To Come Out Of Bullpen On Sunday!
To manage the six-man rotation, the New York Yankees have decided to move Marcus Stroman to the bullpen for the coming week. Manager Aaron Boone confirmed the news on Friday, stating that Stroman would be available outside the bullpen on Sunday. While the decision is temporary, signs are good for Marcus, who’s missing his second start in the past four weeks. Notably, the pitcher owns a 5.57 ERA over his last four starts and has pitched a total of 28 starts this season. He has been healthy, but inconsistency is something the Yanks are concerned about, especially in the postseason when the margin of error is low. “I’ll try to put [Stroman] in the best position and make sure we communicate well with him,” Boone said.
Notably, the New York Yankees manager added that he spoke to Marcus Stroman, and he was positive about the decision. That being said, Stroman’s bullpen move safeguards Nestor Cortes’ place in the starting rotation. Cortes was moved to the bullpen last week to piggyback Clarke Schmidt, and he was absolutely furious with the decision. Hence, this time around, Cortes will keep his place, whereas Stroman appears to be a fall guy. Interestingly, the Yanks are increasingly making their playoff choice clear. Gerrit Cole, Carlos Rodon, and Luis Gil appear favorites to clinch a postseason berth. The rest will either be benched or moved to the pen. Overall, As the New York Yankees continue to juggle their complicated pitching staff, this move demonstrates the importance of flexibility and depth, two elements that will be key in their playoff aspirations.
Lou Trivino’s Rehab Extended With Playoff Aim
Besides the starting rotation, the New York Yankees are also strengthening the bullpen. Recently, the team decided to extend relief pitcher Lou Trivino’s rehab assignment by 10 days to keep him fresh for the playoffs. Notably, Trivino has yet to pitch in majors since the 2022 playoffs due to Tommy John surgery. “Lou is making significant progress. He appreciates the club’s support, and the extension made sense,” his agent said.
If Trivino can regain his form, he awill join a bullpen that already features key relievers like Clay Holmes, Luke Weaver, and many more. His presence would add depth and versatility, allowing manager Aaron Boone more options in critical late-game situations. While Trivino’s availability for the postseason is not yet guaranteed, the extension of his rehab shows the Yankees are committed to having him ready as a potential difference-maker.
