Aaron Boone, the New York Yankees manager, reveals how the club plans to utilize Giancarlo Stanton into the 2023 season.
Giancarlo Stanton joined Bronx Bombers in 2018 as a designated hitter cum outfielder. However, his performance hasn’t lived up to the expectations of the fans. Moreover, 2022 was one of the worst years for the 33-year-old. He played just 38 games, that too in the first half, as he went down with a calf injury in the postseason.
Meanwhile, the Yankees are struggling to find a stable left-field option for the upcoming 2023 season. However, Aaron Boone, the manager in charge of the Yankees, opened up on how they plan to use the outfielder Giancarlo Stanton in the left as well as the right field. But Boone also gave hints on Stanton being used as a mere DH reserve for most of the season.
Boone Wants Giancarlo To Stay Healthy And Active For The Yankees In 2023
As Aaron Judge is all set to continue with the Yankees, uncertainty looms over Giancarlo Stanton’s position in the club. With recurring injuries, Stanton becomes extremely difficult to handle for the Bombers. Recently, New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone came out and cleared the air on Stanton’s position in the roaster.
Boone said that Giancarlo Stanton would feature more on the right field in the Yankee’s home ballpark. Moreover, we might see Stanton stationed on the left field in other ballparks. He stated that Stanton is comfortable playing on the left field. Hence, he might be the backup option if the bombers fail to pick up a designated option in the trade market.
FYI, the Yankees are missing a proper left-field choice in the roaster for the 2023 season. Boone further hoped Stanton would stay in the pink of his health to feature in the 2023 season. Also, the bombers will try to manage the outfielder’s workload in order to keep him fresh for the entire season.
“I want to get him out there,” said Aaron Boone
Is Giancarlo Stanton A Wise Option For The Left Field?
Giancarlo Stanton has shown his best while playing defense. Before coming to the Yankees, Stanton had 45 defensive runs saved in total. However, the outfielder has shown tremendous contribution with the bat also. But it looks like the Yankees want to remove him from the defensive role completely. Moreover, Stanton might not even be a regular starting member of the team as the bombers plan to manage his workload carefully.
Nonetheless, the New York Yankees are putting in a lot of effort for the 2023 season and want no stone left unturned. From retaining Judge for an enormous amount of money to bringing back Brian Sabean to the front office, the bombers are getting serious about the title with each passing day. Hope the Yankees end the 13-year-long drought and finally claim the championship title.
