The New York Yankees registered a thumping series victory over the sturdy Toronto Blue Jays. Despite taking an early lead, the series got pushed down to the rubber game, which the visitors dominated with an all-around performance. Overall, the series win brought a much-needed boost to the struggling Yankees, who are now no longer the bottom-most team in the American League East Division.

Meanwhile, the injury bug continues to haunt the Yankees behind the scenes. While a few returned to the lineup last week, many still remain on the dreaded injury list. Moreover, it seems the team will not have any respite from the injury crisis any time soon as another crucial player of the lineup has surprisingly landed on the IL.

In a surprising turn of events, the sporting giant, New York Yankees, announced eye-popping roster moves ahead of the rubber game against the Toronto Blue Jays. The Bombers placed catcher Jose Trevino on a 10-day IL owing to an alleged hamstring pull. This comes as a blow to the team, as Trevino showed no signs of discomfort in his previous outing on Wednesday. He batted all the way through to the 10th inning before leaving the game off a pinch runner. However, by the time he left, he looked fine. It remains unknown when the catcher actually sustained the injury.

Jose Trevino batted at .219 with three home runs and 11 RBIs in 30 games appearances. The catcher’s injury comes at an unfortunate time for the Yankees, as they are in the midst of a crucial stretch of games. Regardless, the team has summoned reinforcements from the minor league. Catcher Ben Rortvedt, who recently got reinstated from the Triple-A injury list, will join the Yankees roster. Ben has been making waves in the minors ever since his return with .324, three home runs, and a 1.026 OPS in 10 games. He missed the start of the ongoing season due to shoulder aneurysm surgery and just made his return a couple of weeks ago.

Meanwhile, the New York Yankees finally grant pitcher Luis Severino’s wishes. He is all set to get reinstated this weekend from the IL. Luis suffered from a lat strain in spring which delayed his season debut. Further, the strength and conditioning team of the club delayed Severino’s rehab assignment for mysterious reasons. This led to a showdown between the pitcher and the team management as Severino accused them of not trusting his gut.

Nonetheless, after a series of disagreements and arguments, both parties have arrived on the same page. Luis Severino will make his first-ever start of the season in the pinstripes on Sunday against the Cincinnati Reds. It’s worth noting that reliever Tommy Kahnle, who suffered from right biceps tendinitis, will begin a rehab assignment on Thursday with Single-A Tampa. Moreover, LHP Carlos Rodon has successfully resumed his throwing activities and is inching closer to a return. Hence, if all things go well, the Bomber’s pitching staff will receive a major boost in the coming few weeks.
