Yankees Having A Left Fielder Problem After Losing Andrew Benintendi To White Sox!

The New York Yankees might have had an amazing offseason, as they signed Aaron Judge, Anthony Rizzo, and Carlos Rodon. However, one important player they were somewhat eyeing to sign, Andrew Benintendi, has been stolen away by The White Sox. Now, as their plans have been derailed, it will be interesting to watch which left fielder the Yankees will resort to.

The Yankees Lose Andrew Benintendi!

The Yankees have demonstrated this offseason that they are prepared to pay whatever it takes to sign their top free-agent targets. In addition to spending an additional $162 million to sign Carlos Rodón, the finest starting pitcher still available on the free market. New York spent $360 million to keep superstar slugger Aaron Judge. But when it came to Andrew Benintendi, New York established a limit and wouldn\’t go beyond it.

Re-signing the Yankees\’ main target for the left field this offseason was Andrew Benintendi. However, on Friday, the 28-year-old discovered a better offer elsewhere. Benintendi agreed to terms with the White Sox on a five-year, $75 million contract on Friday, leaving the Yankees in free agency following the 2022 season. This summer\’s trade deadline saw New York acquire the left-handed batter. Before fracturing his hamate bone, he was a valuable asset and a good match in pinstripes.

Since the start of the offseason, the Yankees have been outspoken about their desire to re-sign Benintendi. General manager Brian Cashman of the Yankees made it obvious during the Winter Meetings that he would dearly want to re-sign Benintendi this offseason. Brian Cashman will have to reevaluate his plans for left field in light of Benintendi\’s departure. The Yankees may be more concerned with getting a left fielder to balance out a roster that had recently lost a lefty in Benintendi. And had grown overly right-handed by the playoffs.

Cashman has a solid outfield base from which to develop, which is the good news in this situation. Aaron Judge, a right fielder, returned earlier this winter following his record home run onslaught during the previous season. Harrison Bader, a center fielder who was acquired from the St. Louis Cardinals before the trade deadline. He will also remain with the team for the whole season.

Meanwhile, The Yankees do possess a few internal candidates they might look at for the left-field opening. This includes experienced Aaron Hicks and newcomer Oswaldo Cabrera. Given the rumored interest in keeping Benintendi, it\’s definitely reasonable to infer that New York would like to start camp with a different option. Perhaps with names like Hicks and Cabrera on the depth chart.
