After a terrible road trip, the New York Yankees returned home to host Seattle Mariners in a three-game series. Coming off from a fourth consecutive series loss, the hosts were on the back foot. However, the manager, Aaron Boone, chose to play his trump card. Ace Gerrit Cole made a start and immediately left a deep impact.

Gerrit Cole has been the Yankee’s only shining armor this season. In 15 starts so far, Cole has recorded a 2.75 ERA with 98 strikeouts and 1.113 WHIP. He has become a force to be reckoned with this year, which is not that unusual of him. Meanwhile, the ace once again put his brilliance on display in his recent outing and entertained the fans with some drama.

New York Yankees ace Gerrit Cole bamboozled Seattle Mariners with his epic fastballs and sliders. In 7.1 innings pitched, Cole gave away one run, four hits, one walk and struck out eight batters in the process. Not only that, the ace walked off with a standing ovation from the home crowd. However, a particular moment of a passive altercation between Cole and the Mariners’ coach caught the attention of the fans. In the seventh inning, Mariner’s second baseman Jose Caballero tried to rattle the pitcher’s concentration by teasing him with deliberate delay. For context, under the new pitch clock rule, a batter has to take his stride within eight seconds, or else it would be called a strike.

Jose entered the batter’s box just a second before the timer ran out, which irked Gerrit Cole. He threw a speeding ball over his head. In the very next moment, Cole took his revenge by striking out the Caballero with a 98-mph fastball. Immediately after the strikeout, the Yankees ace wagged his finger at the Mariners dugout, which was actually directed towards their coach, Scott Servais. Gerrit explained the incident saying that Scott hurled some nasty words at him while he was coming out of the Yankees dugout. Apparently, Scott wagged a finger first at Cole, and the pitcher just retaliated in defense. The whole incident added spice to the matchup, and the fans totally enjoyed it.

New York Yankees ace Gerrit Cole absolutely owned Seattle Mariners on Tuesday during the series opener. He pitched for seven long innings and gave away just a lone run. With that, the Bronx Bombers earned their 40th win of the season. Cole has been in stellar form this season and has massively contributed to the team’s minimal success this year.

Meanwhile, after the recent outing, fans once again hailed the ace for his fight on the mound. They took to Twitter to heap praises on the pitcher. Gerrit Cole is in the fourth year of his nine-year contract and has already done justice to his massive payroll. Moreover, amid persistent struggles this season, Cole has held the fort from his end, which has kept the Yankees’ ship from sinking. Hence, the fans would hope for the ace to continue to stellar run for as long as possible.
