The Yankees have fought tooth and nail to end their left-field woes for the upcoming MLB season. However, the Yanks repeatedly fell right on their faces as multiple negotiation talks resulted in nothing but disappointment. Further, the Bombers have run out of cash after spending a ridiculous amount on notable big names. Hence, the free agency market is closed for the club until and unless they find a way to shed some money.

Meanwhile, the Yankees will move into the spring training without a first-choice left fielder. Earlier, Brian Cashman showed a lot of faith in Aaron Hicks and confirmed the outfielder would start for the Yanks in the left field until they find a replacement. While Oswaldo Cabrera remains another candidate for the spot, there is one underrated player in the bullpen who could be a surprise element, Estevan Florial.

Can Estevan Florial Make A Good Case For The Left Field Job?

\"Estevan

25-year-old outfielder Estevan Florial made his minor league debut in 2015. He scored seven homers and 53 RBIs with an average of .313 in his debut season. Owing to consistent performances in minor leagues, Florial received his first major league call-up in 2020. However, after just one game against the Mets, the outfielder was sent home. Moreover, in 2021, Estevan again came in as a replacement but could not get enough game time.

However, playing for Scranton in 2022, Estevan Florial played a good amount of 101 games and made 461 plate appearances. On top of that, his average stayed under .300, with 15 homers and 46 RBIs. Hence, Florial does make a good candidate for the left-field job. The outfielder is young with good athleticism. However, the reason Estevan has failed to put up memorable performances is the Yankees are trying to shuffle him around into the major and minor leagues. The club needs to give Estevan Florial space in the bullpen if they see a future with the outfielder. If not, it\’s the right time to trade him.

Yankees Receiving Criticism For Backing Aaron Hicks

Aaron Hicks

While Oswaldo Cabrera and Estevan Florial make a good case for their candidature for the left field job, the Yankees front office continues to back Aaron Hicks. The veteran\’s inconsistency would cause a lot of trouble for the Yanks in the long run. Moreover, Hicks had an average last season, and giving him a crucial left-field position could be a gamble. On top of that, the fans and critics are also questioning the Bombers\’ move and have shown no faith in the outfielder.

Meanwhile, the free agency market and the trade window are still open for the Yankees to bring a fresh face on board. However, the club\’s limitations have created a massive roadblock for the same. For now, all the eyes will be on the Yankees in the upcoming spring training, wherein the final picture will be out.
