With Giancarlo Stanton heading into IL for 4-6 weeks due to a hamstring strain, Trent Grisham finally got to be the starting centre field for the New York Yankees this year. Aaron Judge has been made to DH on most games since Stanton went down, with Grisham taking out the CF role.

While Trent Grisham is an acclaimed outfielder and a golden glove winner, his recent miscue at centre field brought embarrassment to the Yankees and the fans alike. Grisham’s efforts and approach were lazy against the Reds on Thursday, and the outfielder bore the brunt of the home fans for messing up a routine play.

Trent Grisham got on already frustrated New York Yankees fans’ nerves when he messed up a routine play due to lack of intent. The centre fielder came down casually on Jeimer Candelario’s line drive and was lazy while picking it up. The ball fell out of his mitts on the first attempt, and the hitter converted the single into a double with sharp game awareness. The fans at the Yankee Stadium were disappointed and embarrassed to see Grisham’s laziness and booed him relentlessly for the rest of the innings. Grisham knew he was at fault and just soaked the hostile environment by shaking his head. Meanwhile, manager Aaron Boone criticised and also backed the outfielder.

Aaron Boone said that Trent Grisham’s efforts at centre field against the Reds were lackadaisical. It looked bad on the team, especially when they were losing. Boone added that he had a chat with the outfielder in his office and conveyed his message. However, the skipper also backed Trent, saying the outfielder has a relaxed approach in the field. He is not someone who hustles on every ball. That’s how he has played all these years and won the Golden Glove. However, at the same time, the manager feels Grisham needs to be more mindful of routine things and avoid silly lapses. “Believe me, that lackadaisical look sometimes is what makes Trent Grisham a Gold Glove centre fielder,” opined Boone. Notably, besides defence, Grisham isn’t doing great on the plate either. He is hitting .165 with five home runs and .638 OPS across 46 games this year.

“Childish, Nonsense,” Michael Kay Denounces Yankees’ Standoff With Reds

The series finale between the New York Yankees and Cincinnati Reds held at the Yankee Stadium on the 4th of July took a strange turn when both sides were engaged in a national anthem standoff. Despite the umpire’s intervention, none of the pitchers moved their feet until the Yankee skipper summoned his boys back into the dugout, thus ending the standoff.

However, the strange incident irked Yankees presenter Michael Kay as he deemed it a complete nonsense and childish move. “What are we, infants? This is the New York Yankees,” Kay said. He added that such acts are “sophomoric nonsense” and decreases the value of the esteemed organisation at world stage.“That’s silly, that’s stupid, it’s childish, it’s infantile,” Kay further added.
