In order to become an eight-time world champion, will Lewis Hamilton switch his team? Since Mercedes can’t provide him with a strong car, which team fits perfectly for him?
When Lewis Hamilton lost the 2021 F1 world championship to Max Verstappen in the very last moment, it didn’t hurt him enough to quit. Instead, it motivated the seven-time world champion to keep fighting. He came back in 2022 with Mercedes to win his eighth world championship but ended up the season with zero wins. This is something that Lewis Hamilton, even in his worst nightmares, would have never visioned. But this is what happened in reality with the eight times constructor’s champion team. In 2023, in the first race itself, we saw the W14 performing low, too low to not let the fans weave false hopes.
Following the mediocre performance of Mercedes at the Bahrain Grand Prix and the free practice sessions of the Saudi Arabia Grand Prix, a question has been raised: Is this the time when Lewis Hamilton needs to leave Mercedes? 2023 is the last year of Lewis Hamilton’s contract with Mercedes. And now, looking at the promises that the team is failing to fulfill, its boss Toto Wolff is ready to let Hamilton go.
Lewis Hamilton Will Not Leave Mercedes?
It was getting hard for Mercedes fans to accept that this was the last year of Lewis Hamilton in Mercedes. And so the boss and the driver together came up to assure fans that an extended deal was coming. But Hamilton has not yet signed any papers. Nor has it been officially announced. So yes, there is a chance that the seven-time world champion might not continue with Mercedes.
However, according to Mercedes boss Toto Wolff, Lewis will not LEAVE Mercedes, as he said at Thursday’s media conference. The only reason for that might be the fact that he was defeated by his won teammate George Russell last year. Plus, the bond that made Hamilton a family of Mercedes still stands the tallest among all reasons that deprive the driver of quitting.
Toto Wolff Will Let Go Of Hamilton For His Good
However, Wolff considers that it is the stage of Hamilton’s career where a sense of trust has occurred between the two. “We have made a great bond with each other. No reason to doubt.” But now, the valley of tears is shadowing the team. No positive light is being captured. Hamilton wants to take back the 2021 championship, which is only possible when Mercedes gives him a car like W12. Focusing on this, Toto Wolff said, “If we cannot demonstrate the car that can let him win, he needs to look everywhere.“
The Mercedes boss knows that it is not the stage to happen anything like that, but Lewis “would have no grouch if that happens in a year or two,” he said. Recently after finishing the Sakhir Circuit 50 seconds behind Max Verstappen, Lewis Hamilton finally showed his outburst for Mercedes. He revealed that he had advised his team to do something last year as he is experienced with cars. But the team ignored him. They didn’t listen to him
Given all of these, fans started thinking that Lewis Hamilton might be willing to continue with Mercedes.
