Mercedes boss Toto Wolff sure had been through a tough time since last year. But he is among the most successful team principals of all time in F1. Moreover, his collaboration with Mercedes has been highly successful. He joined the Silver Arrows back in 2013. It was the same year when Lewis Hamilton joined the Brackley team, too. And that set the tone for the next F1 revolution. In the new turbo-hybrid era, Mercedes dominated the grid as they won eight titles in a row. On the other hand, Lewis Hamilton equaled the number of F1 titles record of Michael Schumacher in 2020.
But the last time the German team won the constructor title was in 2021. Since then, it has been a complete domination of the rival team of Mercedes. Max Verstappen helped Red Bull regain the F1 champion status again since last year. On the other hand, Mercedes fell short of building the fastest car since the new cost-cap era hit F1. Since last year, Toto Wolff’s team has been struggling to beat Red Bull. No Wonder why Toto Wolff must feel depressed.
F1 Pundit Raises Concern On Toto’s Look After The Las Vegas GP
The only race Mercedes won in 2022 was in the Brazilian Grand Prix. Other than that, the German team has been losing every Grand Prix since 2022. This year has been even more of a struggle for Toto Wolff and his team. At first, Mercedes managed to reduce the bouncing problem that messed up their season last year. But they have been winless, with only the final race remaining this season. Toto Wolff had some hopes in the mid-season that his team might win a race or two with the help of new upgrades. But it has been a very disappointing year for the Austrian billionaire executive.
In an interview with Sky Sports F1, pundit Danica Patrick mentioned Toto Wolff looked tired, defeated, and frustrated after the Las Vegas Grand Prix. But Patrick said Christian Horner talked about the timing of the Las Vegas Grand Prix. Clearly, the F1 teams had a very long year, and it can be exhausting for a lot of people. Moreover, Danica Patrick added that it might feel extra heavy to the team principals after a long year. Adding to that, she said it does not help them when they have a bad day on the track after getting some glimmers of hope. Hence, everybody wears down eventually.
Toto Wolff Feels Despite The Negative Criticism, The Weekend Was Great In Las Vegas
Toto Wolff recently spoke about his impression of the Las Vegas Grand Prix. Initially, there was a lot of criticism around the addition of the new GP in the F1 calendar. As per Autosport, Toto Wolff said there was too much negative criticism throughout the weekend.
Anyhow, Wolff feels they are leaving Vegas after a great weekend. Hence, he felt a lot of negative criticism went out of proportion. But the Mercedes F1 team boss feels the Las Vegas Grand Prix will help in the growing popularity of F1 around the USA. Hence, he can’t find anything wrong with that.
