The New York Yankees had an aggressive off-season. However, their business remains unfinished even as the deadline is coming to an end. The ongoing off-season will end in a few weeks, and spring training will begin. Clearly, the Yankees need to take bold steps from here on to complete their roster before it’s too late.

For instance, the Yankees are lacking a designated left fielder and a starting shortstop. Andrew Benintendi left for Chicago White Sox and sent the Bombers in a fix. After that, the club held talks with various free agents and clubs. But nothing fruitful came out of it. Hence, it looks like the club will have to move to the opening day with a giant hole in the left field. Apart from that, the Yankee front office has two prospects fighting for the starting shortstop role.

Yankees Roster Lacks A Left Fielder, Undecided Over Starting Shortstop

The New York Yankees, despite having an aggressive off-season, are in turmoil. First things first, the roster holes out without a left fielder. The club set eyes on multiple free agents. But the lack of funds forced them to call off the deals. Moreover, the Yanks moved to Pirates for a trade of Bryan Reynolds. However, the Pirates asked for a farm in exchange for one. Hence, the trade is currently stalled. Thus, the Yankees will now settle with Aaron Hicks and place him in left field until they find a replacement.

Secondly, the Yankees are still undecided over the starting shortstop. The club failed to find a trade for Isiah Kiner-Falefa. Hence, he becomes a contender. However, the front-runner for the spot is Oswald Peraza. Peraza is the most sought-after candidate for the front office. Apart from these two, the Yanks have Anthony Volpe in the mix, who recently ranked one of the MLB’s top shortstop prospects. However, Volpe is a rookie and lacks experience. But his talent can give anyone a run for their money. The Yanks will likely provide all three candidates a fair battle, and the winner will claim the spot.

Three Yankee players, Anthony Volpe, Jasson Domínguez, and Oswald Peraza, found a spot in the MLB pipeline’s Top 100 prospect list. Yankees’ top prospect, Volpe, ranked 5th on the list, whereas Jasson Domínguez ranked 47th and Oswald Peraza ranked 52nd on the list. All three prospects are below 22 years of age.

Meanwhile, Anthony Volpe and Oswald Peraza could start for the Yankees in the 2023 MLB season. The fight is on for the shortstop, and the spring training will decide who emerges victorious. Moreover, Volpe’s talent can very well beat Peraza’s experience. Hence, the fight will be an exciting watch. Spring training will begin in a few weeks after the off-season ends.
