Mercedes has arguably played the most significant role in making Formula One history more interesting. Returning with the legend Michael Schumacher and developing another one in Lewis Hamilton, the team saw rise and fall, defeat too, but mostly victories. Not only one of the GOAT drivers but also one of the great bosses, Mercedes, made in Toto Wolff. Reading the past decade’s history of motorsport, these names shine the most.
Wolff guided the Silver Arrows for ten years and claimed eight constructor’s championships within his tenure. From 2013 to 2020, all the wins were meant for Mercedes. Unfortunately, with the end of the turbo hybrid era and two back-to-back championships, Red Bull succeeded in ending Mercedes’s dominance.
But, already, Toto Wolff has done a great job of getting remembered forever. And he is not yet done. Mercedes is definitely preparing for a strong comeback, and then maybe for another decade, Wolff can make Mercedes dominate and develop another seven-time world champion in George Russell.
In 2013, when Toto Wolff joined Mercedes, he was not so naive in the field. Apparently, he had links with the sister team, Williams. And not only Williams, but he also has some links with Aston martin, which persists at present too. The new team of Fernando Alonso is somehow bonded with the Mercedes boss.
Toto Wolff Invested In Aston Martin, BOUGHT 0.95% of His Share
Born in 1972 in Vienna, Austria, Toto Wolff started his career in the finance field. At first, he was a rally runner, then he became an investor and entrepreneur in the automotive industry and finally joined Mercedes in 2013. When Wolff joined the team, the winning percentage of the team increased to 53%.
And as we all know, under his leadership, Mercedes became one of the most dominant teams in Formula One history. By winning seven constructors and six driver’s championships, he became the CEO of the Brackley-based motor racing team.
Now speaking of the connection of Toto Wolff with Aston Martin, one should know that the team has been using Mercedes engines for many years. But just two years ago, the engine partnership has been limited. The hybrid and electric propulsion technology, in which Mercedes was a master, was developed with Aston Martin. 20% of the credit goes to the Martins.
However, when Mercedes found that their allowance with Aston Martin in terms of engine development resulted in similar cars, a controversy took place between them. There was apparently a sanction for the British team in the 2021 Formula One World championship.
Earlier, there was a close relationship between Mercedes and Aston Martin, but after the controversy soon, Toto Wolff decided to invest in Aston martin. He bought 0.95% of his share from the team when Lawrence Stroll emerged in the English team. So, now the Mercedes principal has a stake worth 37 million euros in the new team of Fernando Alonso.
